I would love to be feeding horses

in KY!  Imo, that is the best kind of exercise imaginable.

To be fair to the doctor, I think she meant that there is a big difference between 38 (when I was last really active) and where I am now at 48.  She stressed that maintaining fitness gets way harder once we hit our 40s.

But she definitely didn't have the best bedside manner!  Could have been a little more subtle in her wording.

At least she didn't say what my dad used to..."You got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel!".

    fitness

You should try it when you are in your 80's. LOL

    Just wanted to mention

that I found a website, sparkpeople.com,  that has a lot of good beginner exercise videos.  Cardio, upper and lower body, strecthing, etc.  Some Pilates and yoga.  I esp like the fact that they are all 8-12 minutes long, so I won't get "bored" (ie keel over from exhaustion).

I read that you can break that recommended 30 minutes a day into 10 minutes here and there, and still get the same effect.

    thanks for bringing this up!

I've needed to do more exercise and my husband and I spent the long weekend going to different malls and walking them for exercise, then walking them for shopping. Smile  He bought way more than I did.  It felt really good walking, especially when my husband said he was having a hard time keeping up with me.  I thought I was going too slow, so I kept speeding up.  Guess I was doing okay.  I have some arthritis in my knees and walking is really the best thing for me, oh and those lovely hyluronic acid injections.  I hope you find some relief from the pain, maybe exercise will help.  Traci

    My knees are shot

but I have found that wearing knee sleeves helps a bit when going for longer walks.

Of course, me losing 20 pounds would probably help the most, but I have to draw the line somewhere. Sealed

    Walking

I walk everyday.  I found it helps my age-related stiffness and general mood.  I found that wearing a step monitor (mine is a fitbit) helps with the motivation to reach my daily goal.  I also lift free weights (although I've not been very disciplined with that lately).  I just recently retired and have found that I walk less each day than when I worked so I have to pick up the pace.  I agree with others that water exercise might be the best way to go although I hate being in the water so I haven't pursued water exercise myself.  Good luck AA.  I hope the exercise helps relieve some of your discomfort.

    You're not old!

    I have a Fitbit

I usually reach 10,000 steps by 10 am. Good job, really, as it goes down hill from there.

    Fitbit

Amazes me.  I'm amazed at all the information it gives me. I haven't hit 10,000 steps yet. A new goal!

    our favorite steroid...

vitamin D3, a seco-steroid in larger amounts, me 5-10k, her - more, lots more - balanced with vitamin K and magnesium sources. Seriously.  It seems to help to keep both of us moving without various pains.

Then the fish oil, GLA, glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM routine, up to several times normal recommendations for acute episodes/injuries. Vitamin C for collagen formation too.  Many of the LEF style supplements are anti-inflammatory.  I can't tell you how much she used to spend on joint, muscle and bone pain complaints, probably vit D3 deficient decades ago, but at one point she was watching the category insurance limits of a wealthy company sponsor.
