Sue, Jeff, Karl, Matt, Lisha, others/anyone not posting in awhile or anyone for that matter....  How are you doing?  Foxy wants to know :).

Foxy is coming along.  She knows how to sit now and we're working on some more.  Pretty soon I'll have her doing laundry and washing the car - LOL.  Just wanted to know how folks are doing.  Post something and at least say "Hi".  Hope everyone is doing well.

- Jim

Sorry for not posting for a while. I try and add to my blog every ten days or so. I have been thinking of all of you most days...I have a long prayer list. Just had my fourth treatment last Thursday and am feeling ok...little oozy. The oozyness seems to get worse after each additional chemo day. My weight is good, but I'm force eating on my not so great days and still running about 2-3 times per week (just 2 miles). The big day is June 23 when I have my PET scan to see if chemo is working. All prayers are welcome and any prayer requests are welcome too!!

Foxy looks awesome!!! For all you fathers: HAPPY FATHER'S DAY.

    Thanks Jeff

Sending positive thoughts for your pet scan.  I haven't taught Foxy how to pray yet - still getting the "devil" out of her.  Been taking her to a dog park and she loves it and it forces me to walk more and her to burn excess puppy energy.

Prayers are good and I have no idea they helped me during treatment, etc.  Pray for me in general to get my blood pressure down.   Thanks!

"Anyone" here to say hello. I'm like you, Jim, I worry about our friends/family when we don't hear from them in a while. I hope everyone is doing well. My nerves are getting frayed as I face Rituxan #8 (or #16 depending on how I look at it) next Monday, the 23rd, and then a colonoscopy (yay!) the following week. Big fun in store for me.

Yesterday, I was in my kitchen cutting up a cabbage to make coleslaw and started missing my dog, Connie. She was a Jack Russell "Terror" who would vacuum for me while I was chopping fruits and vegetables. Cabbage was her very favorite and I swear she could smell it before I made the first slice and then rush to my side. Now when I drop something on the floor, I actually have to bend over to pick it up. Just one of the many services she provided. (She died while I was on chemo).

I can't tell how big Foxy is? I love that face! Do you know what she is or how big she will get? It sounds like she is slowly getting you trained.

    Cheers,

    Rocquie

LOL.  Yep, she's getting me trained alright :).  She's right at 20 lbs and qualifies (so far) for the "small dogs" section at the dog park I take her to (she loves it).  She won't be still enough for me to mearsure exactly but she's about 13-14" tall (her back) and about 17" from her neck to where her tail starts.  She's probably the perfect size for indoors.  Vet said he thinks she's a terrier mix, probably pomeranian.  She's probably a vacuum cleaner too - she likes bananas of all things :). This morning when I was walking her she had a fit over the dear walking throught the woods.  She's a strong little devil :).

Good luck next week and I've had enough colonoscopies for a lifetime ;).

    FOXY FOXY

    Jim:

I love the face of Foxy.  Reminds me of a childhood pup called Sniffy.   I am very jealous of you, since  I love dogs and would love to have one,  particularly with a face like Foxy:  No frizzy fur to cover up her pretty eyes.  I am in an apartment where we can have a dog 30 lbs. max., but I think of the responsibility of walking a dog, and I am not a spring chicken.

I do have a lovely Kat.  We call her Blue because she kinda resembles a Russian Blue Kat.  She is a snuggler and puts her paw on my hand and falls asleep.  If she wants attention, she sometimes taps me on the shoulder.   I have read that cats who use their paws like hands are more intelligent than their brothers and sisters.

However, a cat is not like a dog!

    Hi Jim
    Hi Jim & Foxy;
I've been ok... I'm just really tired a lot. Not sure what's affecting me but I think its my diabetes, my sugar levels have been on the low side and I'm just getting all these weird side affects! Rapid heart palpitations, bad headaches, shakyness, and just drained like if I ran a marathon or something! I'm gonna go see my doc in about 2 wks...
Foxy looks like she is sharp!!! I'm also a dog person but recently I've been dreaming of cute kittens. I don't know maybe it's a sign or something Haha! I've never had a cat before, maybe my dreams are telling me to get one! :D
take care and I will be keeping you on my prayer list that your high blood pressure goes down!!! Sending everybody here a HUGE HUG!!!

    Sincerely,
    Liz

    Hey Liz

Hi Liz and thanks for the response.  I'm sorry you've not been feeling well and hope you get to the bottom of it.  Please let us know how things go with you doctor visit.  I think Foxy is probaby "sharp" (bright) but just doesn't know it yet because of her ADD - LOL.  We're starting to have some fun together.  If I had a dollar for every time I've said the word "NO!" to her, I'd be rich by now :).  Did some research on the internet and she looks very much like a mix of Rat Terrier and Pomeranian.  Right now at times I'm thinking about calling her a "Terror-manian" Wink.

    Hugs back!

These might give you an idea of Foxy's size.  She is growing but won't be a monster dog I don't think ;).  She's leaning on the edge of a picnic table in the second one.

CHECK FOXY'S FEET TO DETERMINE HER ADULT SIZE????

I used to hear:  look at a puppy's feet.  Not foolproof, however

Foxy looks like personality plus!! Saying hello from our fur babies-Ginger (a 13 year old Border Collie/German Shepherd Mix) and Madison  (a 9 year old bichon frise'/poodle mix). We call them "the odd couple" but they get along fine!  Both were rescues-Ginger at 3 months at the shelter and Madison from Bichons and Buddies rescue in Los Angeles.

    Still here

    Hi Jim,

I am still here, reading posts, just not as often. Life, home and the newest grandbaby have kept me busy.

Foxy looks like an active fun pup. Our girl ( newfoundland ) is turning 12 in July. That's old old for a Newf !!

Do you ever watch Ceaser Milan the dog whisperer. He is so full of wonderful insite and advice. We learned that saying no to a dog is not very succesful. It sounds to close to other words for our dog to know the difference. We say things like " off or leave it" Newfs are super smart and are big enough to do what THEY want if you aren't their "pack leader"

So happy that you have Foxy in your life. Enjoy every minute, even the challenges. Pups visit in our lives for such a short amount of time but what we receive from them is forever.

Health wise I am still facing a few issues and some new problems. But overall I am doing okay and trying to live each day the best I can.

Stay well and have fun with Foxy.

    Size

    Jim/Nancy,

The "paw size" theory is fairly accurate, in my experience. We adopted our dog at the pound about 7 years ago (I used to use his pic, before I switched to the cat, if anyone recalls).

He was one of a litter, and we brought him home in a shoe box. The guy working in the pound told someone looking at his sibling, "He will get to about 70 pounds."  Well, Kolbe stays right at 80 pounds....  Tall and lean; looks like he may have a little pointer in him.

But, he is purebread: 100% mutt !   I think he has DAAD, however: Dog Attention Deficit Disorder (with hyperactivity).

Foxy's bushy, tighty coiled tail and pointed ears are chow characteristics, but othewise, of course, I don't really see any chow in her (my family owned a lot of chows over the decades).

Paw size theory is fairly accurate?  Foxy's paws don't look very big to me.  I have not had a dog for years, but would love to have one.  Have a Cat.  Cat paws size meaningless. lol.

    Feet

    Nanc,

I guess "human paws" (feet) are indicative as well: my son always had very large feet (size 12 now, at age 17), and he is approaching 5'11", while I have size 7 feet, and am 5'5".

We always had big dogs in my younger years (chows, an Akita; my sister-in-law breeds Rotties), but a good amout of research is available  from the AKC if you look for a doggie in the future.

We are strictly "pound people" now.  Nothing is more loving than a mixed breed from the Shelter, and most shelters have about any size dog waiting for a home that  you could hope for.

I  wonder whether Foxy is reading  this.

My last two dogs were small, short-hair terrier types, a mix.  One was a bit nasty.  The other very lovable and liked to be vacuumed!

When I was a kid we had two thoroughbreds:  A Springer Spaniel and an Irish Terrier.  My father hunted pheasants with them.

Now, after reading umpteen articles about pitbulls, I would be concerned about pitbull in a mutt mix.

    Hi Nancy

Foxy cannot read yet - LOL ;).  I'll be happy when she learns more than "Sit" and "Up".  We're working on "Stay" right now.  She's trained me also - to watch her all the time when loose for fear of "accidents", etc.

We're still learning to read each other but some progress has been made I think, though small I suppose.  She's so full of energy it's hard for her to pay attention.  I try to take her to the park often to run/play some of it off.  She's much more attentive/trainable after that.

Here's an article on Pit Bulls from the ASPCA.  Pit Bulls can be very sweet - a lot of it is the rep they've received from the news regarding being bred and trained to fight.

Hi Gina and thanks for responding!  Foxy is sort of a rescue I guess.  I got her practically free from a young woman who worked so much she didn't have much time for her.  Glad she realized that and i think Foxy will ultimately be a very good dog.  She has a lot of postive qualities and just a few negatives that we're working on.  Hope you guys are doing well.

    Hi Lisha

Great to hear from you "grandma" ;).  Sounds like you're quite busy.  Thanks for the tips and I plan to watch "Dog Whisperer" more - I could use the help :).  Sorry you have some new health issues but as you say, we have to live one day at a time.  I'm so glad you responded.  Miss seeing you on here!
