Well guys, I was diagnosed on 29th April 2014 with what my urologist said is that my 2cm lesion on my kidney is likely to be 80% cancer and............ I'm still waiting for surgery.

calls to my consultants secretary have resulted in "probably mid July or August" my concern is that it may spread, my consultant said this is very unlikely and there is no rush for this op. What do you think? Should I be worried?

The problem with healthcare in the UK is that you can't pick or choose surgeons. You get who's available a wait on their list.

hope everyone's doing ok. Summer has finally arrived here and I'm enjoying the long sunny days.

hugs to all

It is very unlikely that a 2 cm tumor would spread. Not impossible but highly unlikely. I know you're anxious to get rid of it but another month or so is most likely not going to make a difference so I really wouldn't be worried. I was diagnosed with a 3.4 cm tumor early January and my surgery was March 17.

Hi Karen.  Yes not likely any

Hi Karen.  Yes not likely any issues for waiting.. typically Kidney Cancer grows way less than 1 cm per year.  And I hear you about the wait.. it is the hardest part for sure...  And post surgery you will agree that the fear is worse than the reality...  Not likely this helps with the fear of the unknown.. but post surgery I hope you smile...

And at 2 CM (that number can change once the tumor is removed, pretty typical), you are in the hight 90% range of no recurrance.  However do the follow ups.., as it is not 100% you need to be monitored forever.

All that said, from what I have read, Manchester and London have the best Kidney Cancer specialists over there..  Just passing on what I have "heard"...

    Good Luck...!

Holler at us when ever you feel the need...

    Hi Karen!

    Hi Karen,

You are doing exactly the right thing relaxing in the sunshine. The operation is not that far off now and with such a small tumour nothing untoward is likely to happen in the interim. Where abouts on your kidney is the tumour? If your consultant felt there was any danger of the cancer spreading, he would have recommended an earlier surgery! Don't worry you will do fine! Which hospital are you going to?

I am in Brittany and the weather has been fantastic. Where in the UK are you? I hail from East Sussex, not far from Tunbridge Wells.

All the best with the op:)

    Thanks all for your

Thanks all for your reassurance, it's just that when you know something is possibly 80% cancer you want it gone! No matter how small or slow growing it is. Hopefully I will look back after the op and I will see that in the long run I didn't have to wait long at all.

The tumor is on the upper pole of my left kidney.

Ron thanks for the info on those dr I will google them. Djinnie I am in South Wales, so am under the excellent care of the University Hospital of Wales. I have been to Tunbridge Wells, beautiful place.

    Oh on size... yes size

Oh on size... yes size matters, but the scans are not exact.  You could get two scans on the same day and get a different "measurement".  This is because the scans are taken in slices.  So think of the moon on a nice clear night and how it looks.. a week later it will not look the same, but we know it is the same size.  This is one reason why the final size won't really be known until after they cut it out...

Yes we all wanted that bugger out of us..  normal...  scared, yes, normal, etc.  Hang in there... we will all be here if ya need us.. we are not going anywhere... Well I will when I go on Holiday...

Try not to worry too much

Try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know) Like the others have mentioned.....it sounds all like normal procedure. My tumor was 13 cm and had to wait nearly 6 weeks. The waiting is hard but once it is done, you are well on your way to a healthy recovery.

    Keep posting!

    Hugs

    Djinnie, I love Neath. It's

Djinnie, I love Neath. It's just up the road and I have spent many a Sunday afternoon walking by the waterfalls there. Ron Wales is Wales a bit rainy most of the time but when the sun comes out it's the best place in the world. Wow so glad you have been here. It's such a small world.

thanks Jo Jo, I think the wait  for the op has been worse than the diagnosis at times, just wondering what's going on in there!!

Mellie, the panic will pass. The first two weeks after diagnosis I was a mess, crying in my Drs office was my lowest point. After this I decided that hey I'm still here I'm going to enjoy life from now on and if my consultants not worried neither will I be. I have two young children and it has made me think you only live once (or YOLO as my daughter would say!!) and especially after joining this group and listening to these amazing supportive people. Fox has said think of it is a exciting new journey that we will deal with. try not to worry I know it's hard but you will be ok. We can do this.

    hugs to all

    Neath!

How funny you being just up the road! There is a Barclays advert on the telly now, talking about the miners in Neath and how the Bank has a team helping the locals learn computer skills. I don't know if you get in on your telly. There is a fella who learns how to send an email for the first time. Every time it comes on my hubbies ears prick up, then he always tells me when we move from here we are moving back to Wales. A little less sun I know! but a lovely place to live. We will see!

    The wait British style

About 4 weeks before my surgery my wife took me to a B and B on the Canadian side of Lake Huron to relax.  They recommended this British Pub for the best dinner in town. They brought all of the offerings on a cart to view. At the time I could have done without viewing the Kidney Pie. I guess that is a favorite in the UK.

We used to go over the Blue

We used to go over the Blue Water Bridge... eat at the local diner.. the Boom Boom Drive-In.. they had the best burgers.. the waitresses had to cook their own food for the diners.  Used to get their monster? burger, was like a tripple burger... yummy.. but that was like 50 years ago...

I am already eagerly awaiting my first "full English Brecky"... complete with baked beans, tomato, and yes bacon. (OOps don't tell the Rabbi)..  Oh yes and their Thick Toast (similar to Texas Toast).   In about 7 weeks, I fly to Manchester then take the Ferry to the IOM..!  Life is good..!!

    Be Well All..!!
