Yes, it's good to hear from you John, I knew you were lurking out there somewhere.

    Oh Yea

I am here everyday. Been traveling a lot lately. I travel from one Dr. to the other. AHHHH!!! the joys of getting old. The Golden years is nothing but the sound of the gold leaving my pocket into the Drs. pocket. Seems to be flowing more quickly now that this GREAT health care plan is taking hold. John

    Medical advice

    Sue,

I been telling Jim all he has to do is sit on a hot heating pad for a few minutes and that should cure his problem. That big crayon wax will melt and problem solved.  John Yell

John, not to worry. . .Jim knows I have a sense of humor or he wouldn't have started smarting off on my thread. Only thing is I was trying to ask a serious question about #1 and he started in on #2.

    Gotta roll with itSmile

    On the Serious side

    Jim,

On the serious side though and I guess I do have one believe it or not. The Dr. I go to for my Colonoscopy told me to never use milk of mag, exlax, epson salts and most of off the shelf stool softeners. He said that will really mess your system up. He knew how chemo drugs and other drugs can throw your plumbing off and gave me a prescription called POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL 3350. It's by prescription only, but the best stuff out there. He said you can use it prn with no side effects. If ever need a refill just call the office. John

    Sodium

    Roquie,

I brought up this subject last year when my mom was going through her chemo.  After her second treatment her sodium dropped to emergency level that sent her to the hospital and then ICU.  She actually went into a coma.  Finally when they got her sodium levels to return, she woke up.  We called a very good kidney specialist and she monitored my mom and put her on a medication that brought her sodium to normal levels   The cancer and possibly the chemo had alot to do with it.  But, when my mom's chemo changed from R-CVP to Bendimustine, the sodium levels went back to normal.  Not sure if your doctor would consider using the medication.  Good Luck.  This is the first time anyone here spoke about the sodium level.  Hope I was of some help.   Emily

Thank you so much for your reply. I read your post about your Mom's sodium and her diagnosis of SIADH, which was also my diagnosis. Your post was the only reference to the subject I found. I was also in a coma. They brought my levels up with a very concentrated sodium solution. Though not all the way up to normal levels and my sodium has not reached more that 130 (normal range 135-145). Two weeks ago, it was 125. My SIADH diagnosis was over a year ago.

I am also going to a kidney specialist. You don't happen to know the name of the medication your Mom took do you? Right now, the doctor has me on a protein concentrate and very limited fluid intake. I will have my sodium checked again on the 31st.

I also know from reading past posts that your Mom lost her battle with Lymphoma and I am very sorry to hear that. I know you were a loving daughter and outstanding caregiver to her. Many hugs and my deepest condolences on your loss.

Thank you again for your reply,

    Rocquie

    Rocquie,
    SIADH,,how could I

    Rocquie,

SIADH,,how could I forget.  Wow, i blocked it out.  Rocquie, it was a very crazy time for us.  My very close friend is a RN and Kidney Dyalisis nurse.  She had connections with a very good specialist.  I was able to call my doctor at anytime of the day.  The first medicaton which was the least expensive did not work.  They had to switch her to the most expensive one.  Her sodium was monitored once every few days.  Rocquie your numbers are very low.  130 is passable, but the 125 is not good.  I wish I could remember the name of the meds, however, if you google SIADH I think they list it.  If not, I'm seeing my girlfriend tonight and I can ask.  It was a very difficult 6 months for me and my familiy.  We just hit the one year mark and it doesn't get easier.  Everyday is a constant struggle and I miss her so much.  Her lymphona was a very rare B cell called Intravascular Lymphoma.  She was very healthy for 82 years.  I guess I should be thankful for that.  This cancer took her in 6 months.  Not a lot of time to prepare.  I hope your sodium starts to go up.  Please let me know how you do.

  • Drink

I have about 4 cups coffee, ice tea at lunch, then at least 2 liters of water every day, sometimes more. No soda or beer., but an occasional glass of red wine (maybe  2 glasses per week) and a martini on our monthly nite out with our friends. I could drink scotch every day but seldom touch it. My wife always gets me an expensive bottle of single malt for my birthday. That usually lasts about 3-4 weeks. Straight, no ice! I am so glad God made Scottish peat bogs.

    How much do I drink

I drink about 3 cups of coffee in the morning while surfing the computer. I do drink about 2-3 glasses of iced tea a day. I used to drink water, but not as much as before or as I should. Maybe a soda a day. I do not drink beer, wine or hard liquer. Being from NC I am sure glad God made Copper stills, copper tubing, corn, sugar and yeast. And the band played on. YaHoo !!!!

    Hi John

I could never leave.  I care too much about all of you.  I especially love your posts.  You are so entertaining!  And right!  I was so surprised to see someone with SIADH.  Last year noone had heard of it.  It was so fustrating.  It also went away on it's own.  I hope they give Rocquie the meds.  They worked very well and took the worry away.  I hope you are doing well John.  I'm hanging in there.  I have a wonderful support group.  But, I have my days.     Emily
