I was just rediagnosisEd with breast cancer which has metastasized to the liver. Right now ct/pet scans are just showing one spot, which is about 5 cm. I am considering having surgery to remove the part of the liver where the spot is and I am wondering if anyone else has been through this and can tell me what to expect after surgery? I am very anxious about surgery and this new diagnosis ...so any words of encouragement and hope are welcomed!

    liver cancer

Hi, am so what new here but I also have liver cancer in which started in my right kidney in 2003 and it came back june 2013.  my second bout with this thing.

It's really hard to find the right words but trust in your doctor is important if you dont have a good feeling of trust then request another.

But the most Important factor is Family support to help you thru this and make the right choice(s) and second is you have to fight this with all your being make up your mind that you will win and you will!.

If your DR. says you can have

If your DR. says you can have the liver resected to remove the spot, then by all means, I would do it.  I have had primary Liver cancer twice in 6-1/2 years; my first time I had livre resection where they removed a portion of the liver with the cancer and clear margins surrounding the tumor.  I had a 5 day stay in the hospital, no real pain and my recovery at home was probably another 30 days.  The liver will grow back in a short period of time.  No followup chemo, etc. as the liver really doesn't respond to chemo too well.  If the tumor in your liver is primary from Breast Cancer, then the treatment usually recommended will follow your primary cancer, i.e. Breast Cancer treatment.  If the tumor is a secondary cancer and is truly a liver cancer, then the treatment will usaually follow that cancer treatment protocol. See if they will do a Radio Frequency Ablation (known as RFA) for the liver. I had that done for the recurrence and it was only an outpatient procedure with no real discomfort at home.(I took aspirin, was all.) Home that helps, you. Kristenann. Good Luck.

    Primary Liver Cancer

Hi, my husband was diagnosed with primary liver cancer and tumor is approx. 6cm 3 months ago. The doctor had recommended him to go for the surgery to remove the tumor. They removed more than half of his liver. Though was a big surgery, he still recover pretty fast. He took more than 6 weeks off to rest at home. During his recovering stage, the doctor has encouraged him to do basic stretching and practise breathing exercise.

As I am a yoga teacher, I would encourage you to practise breathing exercise prior to the surgery. Find a surgeon that you are comfortable with and I am sure you will definitely be alright. Take care.

Forgive my mistakes, the drug is called Reparaxin, some form of stem cell therapy.  As I was trying to say,  I went from stage 1 breast cancer to stage 4 terminal in two years. Even though, I recieved chemo IV, and surgery, and radiation. Then I went on the Arimedex oral for the next year, without it helping. I guess, I am just feeling lost.
