A little update on my pops

Hey everyone!

I've been thinking of you all and wondering how everyone is doing.  Unfortunately I've been soooo busy so I wanted to check in and see how everything is going and give you all an update (I know that was a run-on lol).

As some of you know, Dad finished treatment the day before his bday on July 25th.  He had cancerous polyps in his sinus cavity and one lymph node affected.  We know that the polyps in his sinus cavity is gone! (YAYYY!!) but unfortunately... still waiting on a pet scan later this month to put him in the clear! It's scary, but I have high hopes!  Dad was not really eating until my birthday (October 1st) all I wanted for my bday was for dad to eat and that night... he did! Since then, he stopped for a few days, then returned to trying new foods again... he's been eating chicken, stuffing, corn (something about corn- he can really do!), 1/2 piece of pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, eggs, and veggies.  So I'm hoping that he will get this peg tube out soon!! He still uses it sometimes for his protein shakes (ensure) to make sure he's getting enough vitamins and such. We got my parents moved a few weeks back and I can tell he has really gained some new energy, which I'm really grateful for! I practically had to beg him to NOT move heavy stuff! Each day he goes out, works on the old or new house, fishes, so I feel that he's on a real road to recovery. The first few months after treatment... he was pretty miserable and it seemed like he would never get better.  For those of you going through it now.. I can tell you it does get better!  He still has lack of saliva... drinks plenty of water, but the phlegm he constantly used to cough up has seem to be reduced somewhat.  I'm so happy and releived to see my father eating and smiling again.  He is truly such an inspiration!

On the down side... a family friend we have known for a long time, passed a week and a half ago because of an aggressive type of lung cancer that had spread. She left behind an only son, who lost his father just a few years back.  So prayers for him please!

My update:  Everythings been really stressful, but I feel like things are starting to calm down in my life (well it will soon!) We got my parents moved which was great!  I've been  helping them in my free time between work and school whenever I can.  I graduate with my bachelors in just 5 weeks!  I'm so excited about that... with everything going on in my person life, I feel like I'm so ready just to be done with school :) Oh yeah, and my broken leg is pretty much healed!  It just gets sore every now and then!

Well, I guess that's a big enough update for now.  I really hope you all are doing well (the newbies and the oldies;)

Praying that you all continue to heal and things look up!!

<3 Cherie

    You are an inspiration too!

    Hi Cherie,

Thnaks for checking in and glad to hear Dad is well on the road to recovery. You are the inspiration here, keeping all you have going in the air: school, help with moves and support to your family as well as your own stuff. Just count the days now until school is done and by then your Dad will be that much further along in his return to good health. don

What a good caregiver and daughter you are. Remind your Dad that he can always take the Ensure by mouth too...I like mine with a straw. Normally, I don't object to store brands but in the case of Ensure, I go with the real thing for taste. Everytime I tried to give up one Ensure a day, I felt a lack of energy until recently. Haven't had one for almost 2 weeks now.

Now that your Dad is on the mend, your folks are moved, and school is winding down, take time to smell the roses!

    Thanks for all the kind

Thanks for all the kind words!  Yes, I sure could get used to seeing him happy!  He is also very pleased to be in the new house.  They downsized and he has a pond...it's just beautiful.  I'm happy for them!

Yes, I broke my leg right before dad started treatment...it made it really tough to be much of a help!  I'm so looking forward to graduating :)

How are you doing?  I've thought about you all!

    Candi,
    Thank you! It is good

    Candi,

Thank you! It is good to hear from you! How have you been?! I'm glad that you are not having to drink that nasty stuff anymore! Dad still takes his by tube as he is just stubborn and can't stand the taste.

I'll be smelling the roses in 5 weeks ;)

Happy to see you stopped by. My visits have been sparse lately just to busy at work. Judging by your report Dad seems to be doing fine. Progress can be slower than we want but at the pace of one day at a time he will be back to abi-normal before you know it. Congrats on the degree.

    Thanks Jeff! We found out

Thanks Jeff! We found out recently that dad is 100% cancer free now so I am defintely so excited about that! My graduation date has been pushed back to mid- January.  It's disappointing, but thanks to an error on my academic advisors part... it is what it is!  Still not too far off.  Don't work to hard!
