Castor Oil Packs

Hello,

My husband started radiation today and his oncologist is suggesting Castor Oil packs on his neck at night.   He is also using Miaderm.   Has anyone else used the Castor Oil packs and any suggestions.  I am a little confused about the process and haven't seen this talked a lot about on the posts.

Thanks,
Missy

    Hi Missy

You haven't gotten a lot of responses yet because people will tend to scratch their heads a bit over this treatment.  There is othing wrong with it, but it just does't show up on this board very often.  Castor oil has some antibacterial properties, so I suppose there may be a reason to recommend it for radiation induced skin problems.  And the oil of course makes sense, because oil is great treatment for radiation burns.  But he isn't burned yet, and frankly he may not get burned, so this is a pretty aggressive treatment.  I'm not saying that's wrong, but it may be more than necessary at least for now.  Most of us get some radiation burn toward the end of treatment, then agressive skin care is important, and thereare a million ways of doing it.

One caveat though, you don't want to go into radiation with the oil still on your skin, so how has he been counselled about its removal?

    welcome to the club

This is a new one on me...

nobody has brought this neck remedy up since I've been here....but like LTS said, the oil makes sense for when the skin gets dried out, or starts peeling.  For the time being maybe try Aquafor (gawd knows it's as greasy as Castor Oil)....or Calendula cream (the kind they make for baby's butts).....Calendula has healing properties, too....and not near as messy as the other really greasy lotions and potions.  You can get it at any health food store.

Thank you for the comments, good to know that I wasn't missing anything.  We are going to talk to the doctor again and start using the aquaphor.

    Castor Oil

This is an old thread but since I've used Castor Oil for many reasons and saw it first hand on a friends Grandmother (using the Gerson Cancer Therapy) I thought to post my experience.  One could find much helpful mention of it on any Gerson site, or a NYC Doctor I used who then adapted it in his practices (along with H2O2) after he asked what I was doing.  Dr. Majid Ali, tons of information (a brilliant researcher).  You can see he has research notes in all of his articles.

It is a very old and highly efffective remendy - even mentioned in the Bible and Edgar Cayce.  Some heat the oil with heating pads, some use hot water bottles (to avoid emf's).  See Cayce below for very detailed "how to".

First however, full disclosure.  Althouth my mother was in traditional medicine, and I grew up reading her books and loving Biology I went holistic as soon as I was responsible for my health care.  I won't mention my friends grandmother as I am not sure of making claims with regard to non traditional (AMA) therapies.

I can say I saw first hand the castor oil pack break down and pull through the skin the dead stuff.

At the Gerson (maybe other sites now) one can find non odor Castor oil.

After I broke down completely from chemical exposures - all sytems crashing nearly dead.  I used the castor oil all over my skin - head to toe to assist with severe pain in muscles and nerve endings.  (along with many other therapies).

It is messy but later is absorbed into the skin and one wakes up with smooth skin.  I was bedridden and my friend laid down a fresh sheet so as not to goop up the bed linen.

The castor oil pack is used thus.  One has a fresh cloth and adds some low temp heated castor oil.  Then place over area, with (if you wish not to be "messy") some other towel or some use plastic.  I would add a heating water botttle to have the heat assist absorption into the skin.

That's it.  One can wash the cloth but it is goopy so just easier to use a new one MHO.  You never want to resue a used cloth as the oil oxidizes and is not effective.

Many holistic Doctors have much information on this.

    CASTOR OIL PACKS

Castor Oil was recommended by Edgar Cayce for treating many ailments that resist traditional therapies. It can be applied as a balm for skin problems, a soothing tonic for alleviating allergies, and as a "castor oil pack." Known to conventional medicine only as a strong laxative, this extract of the castor bean is a safe, gentle, easy-to-use remedy for virtually any illness-when it is used externally.

What Is a Castor Oil Pack?

A castor oil pack is an external application of castor oil to the body. A piece of wool (or cotton) flannel is saturated with castor oil and applied to a specified area with, or without, heat. The Cayce readings recommend castor oil packs in general to improve assimilations, eliminations, and circulation (especially of the lymphatic system) and in particular to breakup adhesions of the lacteal glands. Although this therapy may seem unusual, it is one of the best documented. It was recommended, as part of a holistic approach, for epilepsy, gallstones, scleroderma, constipation (and other intestinal conditions)—just to name a few.

    How to Make the Pack

Materials needed: castor oil (preferably cold pressed/processed), unbleached wool or cotton flannel (3-4 pieces or layers about 12" x 14" each), a 13-gallon trash bag (cut along the edges that seal it thus giving you two identical rectangular pieces), a standard or extra-large electric heating pad or hot water bottle, a large plastic sheet (such as an inexpensive shower curtain liner), an old sheet, paper towels, baking soda, and a wash cloth or sponge.

The readings say that it is important to heat the pack1 before placing it on the body. The easiest way to do this is to put the flannel on top of the heating pad (the heating pad is first covered by one of the pieces of the 13-gallon trash bag) and turn the heat on. Saturate the flannel with castor oil (the first time the flannel is used, it will require a large amount of castor oil to saturate it.) This will warm up in about 15 minutes. Additional amounts of castor oil will need to be added to the pack before each use.  Note, Heat is not recommended with active infections, bleeding, excessive gas or a recent injury (less than 48 hours old).  Please do not heat the pack in a microwave oven.
