CA125

So my CA125 is 96 after being supposedly cancer free for 3 months.  I saw my oncologist on Thursday, I dont think he seemed to concerned.  He ordered another CT scan and then I see him on Friday.  It is pretty scary especially since I feel great with no symptoms.  Has anyone had this problem and if so what happened.

    Yes!

My CA 125 has crept up slowly each month since January, slowly, until now it is over 100. 96 is high, but it is the pattern that is most important.  The ct May or may not show so anything significant, but your doctor is doing the right thing.  I am sure he will keep a close eye on you.  I've learned treating the recurrances is not the urgent activity that came with the initial diagnosis.  He is concerned, but unfortunately, our recurrances were probably expected, not surprising.  That doesn't mean I'm not really disappointed and mad and scared!

Don't panic yet.  Just take it one day at a time.

    creeping CA125

Mine rose slowly for about a year and then jumped to about 200. That's when a scan finally showed something and we knew it was time to start treatment. Otherwise I remained symptom-free.

    I saw my Oncologist today

I saw my Oncologist today after having a CT scan and it showed two lymph nodes one is 2 cm and one is 3 cm.  My Dr is scheduling a CT guided biopsy and depending on the results will either do more chemo or radiation.  I am so scared, I dont know what to do or think.

I am sorry you are going

I am sorry you are going through this. I just wanted to let you know what I have been thru and it will maybe help you not to panic. I re-occured after only 4 months of no cancer. I currently have been on a clinical trial now for 8 months with a test drug called ec-145 and Doxil chemo. I have a few areas of tumor growth and an enlarged lymph node in my abdomen. This treatment has not shrunk my tumors, but it has stopped them from growing. They have alot of new drugs out there now which can help us stay stable for a while before we have to turn to harsh chemos again. I know re-occuring is very scary, but there are lots of different options out there to try. I didnt lose my hair and have barely felt sick at all with this treatment. Maybe ask your doctor about clinical trials. Best of luck to you!

    Hi Chris

I've not been in your shoes as my CA 125 has not been higher than 7 since my chemo ended.  Please know though that I am sending you lots of good wishes that the new treatment kicks your cancer's butt and you achieve NED (no evidence of disease) again!  You can do it!

    Hugs,

    Kelly

    Dear Chris

I am very sorry that your CA125 is creeping up. I suppose your ONC explained that it means that you are platinum-resistant (recurrence in under 6 months since the last platinum drug chemo). CA125 raise usually (not always) preceeds symptoms by 3-4 months and there is no urgency to re-start chemo until you develop symptoms. If you are in the USA there are several options of non-platinum drugs to try: Taxol, Doxil, Avastin, Gemzar, Topotecan, etc. as well as different clinical trials (www.clinicaltrials.gov)

I send my best wishes to you and to your wonderful supportive daughter.

    Alexandra

Thanks Alexandra,  I had a ct

Thanks Alexandra,  I had a ct guided biopsy on tuesday so just waiting for results.  He mentioned doing more chemo or radiation.  Has anyone done radiation and if so any side effects or how was it.
