My week in hospital

So, 3 weeks ago, I bent down to pick up something like a feather.  Felt lower back go "sprong."  I tried to let it work itself out for a couple days, taking motrin and finally went to my primary.  She gave me a shot of muscle relaxant and Flexeril.  Tried this for a couple days and lower back got worse.

Then I saw my radiologist who gave me valium and a couple other meds and said if I still had pain at the next week's appointment, he would do a bone scan. Pain got so bad after a couple days, I went to the ER on Friday the 14th and got more meds.  The next day it took me exactly 5 hours to get out of bed, an inch at a time, so hubby took me to the ER again.  Spent a lot of time grabbing the side rails during spasms and crying. I am very tolerant with pain, but this was about an 11 or 12 on the scale.  Got admitted, and wow, dilaudid (sp) thru port is like being in heaven.  Between valium and other drugs, the pain is somewhat under control.

But. had an MRI and bone scan and all was clear!!  Nurses and PA were actually doing the happy dance in my room.  Never had a back pain like that and still don't know why.

Fortunately, radiation is in the same hospital so I never missed an appointment.

Got home yesterday. What a week!  I told my husband that as soon as he heard me stir in bed, he's supposed to say "honey can I get you something?" or "let me get that for you?" just like the nurses did.  All the hospital staff were wonderful.

Long post.  Sorry.  Cindy

    I am so sorry

Sorry to hear about your back. I had a similar experience during chemo when I took my 5th shot of Granocyte (like Neupogen) after my 1st chemo session. I have never experienced a pain like that in my lower back. Later the oncologist reduced the shots to 4 after each session, my body couldn't handle the 5th.

I hope you never have to experience such pain again. Good luck with your Rads also, I just finished 20 sessions from 30. I hope we never have to go through this again.

    Unexplained Pain

Glad your scans were cleared.  However you don't have an answer to what happened to cause you such awful pain.

I had a lot of "mystery pain" and in due time I learned what caused them.  One was fibromyalgia and a simple test by the right doctor would have given me an answer that I waited 14 months before learning the cause.

I hope for you, it never returns and was one of those

    weirdo things without explanation.

    Best to you,

    Doris

    Wow!

Sounds like you "threw" out your back. I had that about 6 months ago...ouch! Walking like I was 100. I'm soooo happy all came out clear though.
