Worry, Blood & Humor

I have an appointment in 2 days to have my port flushed and blood counts checked. I have had trouble all along with anemia and last month my blood counts were still low. My hemoglobin was 8.7 and an additional test informed that I have minimal reticulocytes (the youngest, newest blood cells). The best case scenario is that my counts are coming up. Next would be another blood transfusion (if my count goes below 8.0). The real worry is Doc's threat that I may need to have another bone marrow biopsy. No-o-ooo.

I'm looking for humor to combat the worry. Jim?

Awkward Family Photos always gets a chuckle. I looked for sites specifically about cancer humor. All I can find are sites that tell me how helpful humor is. I know that! So, tell me something funny not about funny. Make me laugh.

Anyone have any good ones? I'll start with a couple of funny doctor names I know. A friend from Charleston used to have a gynocologist named Dr. Finger. We have a urologist here in town named Dr. Uhren. In my home town there was a dentist named Dr. Payne. There is a really fat doctor here named Dr. Biggers.

Can anyone make me laugh? Please.

Rocquie

    My monkey boy

So the other morning, I walked outside to go feed Kyle's and I, lovely little "son" Diesel Daniels his breakfast.

I was like, "Diesel, breakfast! Where are you?"

    "Come here boy!"

    Searching for him everywhere.

He's not in his dog house.

He's not in the little kiddy swimming pool we bought him (I know, spoiled! lol)

Hmmmm, where could the little critter be?.....

I turn over my shoulder and see him here.

    Hope no one is offended

So Johnny 8 and his brother Danny 6 are in their bedroom one morning.  Johnny announces to Danny  "I think it's time we learn how to cuss".  "Okay" says Danny.  "I  think my first cuss word is going to be damn" says Johnny.  "Ok, that's a good one, I think mine will be ****" replies Danny.  About that time their mother calls them down to breakfast.  "So what would you boys like for breakfast?"  Johnny proudly states "I think I'll have some of those damn Cheerios."  Well, their mother grabs Johnny by the collar and marches him upstairs.  "You don't leave your room until you can talk to me decently," and she goes back to the kitchen.  "And Danny what would you like for breakfast?"  He thinks about this a minute and he proudly states "Well you can bet your **** it isn't Cheerios!"

    Loved the videos Jim, Super

I'm still laughing at Diesel, that is too funny

    Love the pic

Love the picture, Michelle!  Like the name too but maybe an alternate would be "Kyle's Koala Wannabe" ;).

Hmm, I guess if I were cussin', I'd say "Where are the frickin' Fruit Loops?" ;).  Laughter is good and so are our furry friends.

    Laughter's the best medicine

I had a dentist named Dr. Moeller. ok a penquin joke - A man gets a phone call and is asked to transport 12 penquins to the zoo in the next town for $1,000 fee. He accepts and puts the penquins in his truck and heads for the zoo. Half way to the zoo his truck breaks down and he pulls to the side of the road. A friend of his pulls up to his truck and offers to take the penquins to the zoo for $500. So off go the penquins and the original man's truck is towed in for repair. The next morning the man's truck is running again and he heads for the zoo to see the penquins. To his astonishment the man sees the 12 penquins and the truck driver crossing the street in town. He stops the man and asks why they're in town and not at the zoo. The man says "oh we went to the zoo yesterday like you asked- today we're going to a movie" ha ha too funny - hope it makes you smile. As for the low hemoglobin count mine went down to 7.5 before I was started on Procrit-it quickly brought me up so I didn't need another blood transfusion. Today my count is 15 so you hang in there - I'll be praying for you - my 4th stage lymphoma's in remission - praying for the same for you. God bless!!!!!  Hugs - Steve

This is not a joke, but I must say that I love your dog.  Such a beautiful photo.

I am jealous.  I have a very quiet lovely Kat, but Kats are just not like dogs.

    Funny

You guys are cracking me up. Thank you so much!

Jim, love the videos. The Real Housewives of Chemotherapy made me think about "Sh&t Southern Women Say". Have you seen those? Non-Southerners may not think they are as funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUFL2GT1-2g

Michelle, you could have told me about that dog in a tree and I wouldn't have believed it. What a nut--that is hilarious.

Becky, I think any parent can relate to those naughty boys. You just never know what they are going to say.

Donna, thanks for the funny Doctor names. There is a word for that but my chemo brain prevents me from thinking of it.

Steve, thats funny! (I asked my Doc about procrit once and he said no).

Nancy, I like your cat cartoons. Have you seen the "Simon's Cat" videos? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s13dLaTIHSg

    Thanks again everyone.

    Cheers,

    Rocquie

    BONE MARROW BIOPSY

    Rocquie:

I have B Cell Lymphoma and am being treated by Rituxan.

I had, of course,  various tests, the last being a bone marrow biopsy.   It is my understanding that if this test is done in a hospital, you could have anesthesia.  I think I would request that if there is another test in my futre.

    Bone Marrow tests

Nancy I've had two bone marrow tests both in the hospital the last performed by my oncologist-neither time was I given anesthesia-both times was told to take a deep breath - they did try to numb the back area but as you know the pain is still present. I'm hoping I won't need another since I'm now in remission from 4th stage lymphoma. Big hugs - Steve

    Procrit

Rocquie: Ask again - Procrit worked so well for me- I hated those blood transfusions made me feel like I was dying - I think I had blood transfusions 6 different times and I know they helped but Procrit made me feel stronger right away and boosted my blood count. Also took a strong multi vitamin, folic acid pill, and lots of veggies including those i juiced. May God bless and heal you as He has me. Hugs-Steve

    Good News

Yay! My hemoglobin went from 8.7 to 10.8 in 4 weeks. Not quite back to "normal" yet but definately moving in the right direction. No transfusion. No Bone Marrow Biopsy. Nothing medically to do for another 4 weeks.

Thanks again for all the good humor and the care and concern.

I hope everyone is having a blessed weekend.

    Becky

After my appointment on Friday, we picked up our 3 year old granddaughter to spend the weekend. I told my husband that her mother (our daughter and a nurse) was on second shift this month. Little one quickly scolded me with, "**** is a bad word"! I thought about your joke with the cheerios and the little boys.  Laughing
