First Chemo (!!!)

Hi all,

So, I did end up having my first treatment yesterday, despite a major freak out on my part beforehand (I have an anxiety disorder that makes it very difficult for me in new/unknown situations). Took me about an hour to let the nurse have my arm so she could put in the IV, but I eventually did, so yay me!

I am not feeling too badly this morning (I'm on weekly Taxol) so that has lifted my spirits a little, i'm just taking it day by day and not planning anything concrete for the moment that I wouldn't be able to cancel if i'm not feeling well, at least for this first week until I get an idea of how i'm going to feel how many days out..

1 down, 11 to go!

    I didn't need chemo.Stage 0

I didn't need chemo, Stage 0 but I am just like you.Paranoid to do dfferent things. Especially changes in meds or taking a new one. Before I took my tamox I had my husbanad take me for a ride.It was just one of those meds that worried me with side effects.I have had some reactions and also hear about reactions many others had.A few meds caused death in people. So we have a right to be paranoid.I would be just like you with chemo.Ponder about taking it.I had 2 friends that had reactions. One friend's doctor told her  he hoped she never got a recurrance. He said she may not make it the next time.

Sounds like you'll do fine as time goes on but we all worry.  Good Luck on the next 11 chemo treatments.Keep us informed how it's coming along. You might be that 1 in a million that has no side effects.Wishing you that.

    Hang in there K,

Usually, and this was for me, I felt it on teh 3rd day. If that's the case for you, lay down, relax and watch TV or read a book. Drink plenty of water. Which ever day you feel is your lowest, just dub that as your YOU day. It's all about you and getting better.

    Hugs!

    Day three..

And i'm still feeling good! I had some pain my leg yesterday but it seems to be better now..the only thing I can safely say is that coffee is no longer my friend as it causes me stomach cramps (this one is a personal blow, coffee and I have always been best friends) so i'm limiting myself to one cup a day and then switching to juice or water.

I know that i'm not going to feel this well for the entire three month run, so i'm just enjoying this time where I do feel good before the side effects hit. Also trying to learn how to say no sometimes when people ask me for favors, so when the time comes that I CAN'T do everything for everyone anymore no one will be terribly shocked...this one is a tough one for me.

One day at a time, that's my motto at the moment.

    Perfect motto

Glad you feel good. We women are always the ones in control doing everything for everybody. It will be tough but just stick to it because it IS about you getting better.
