Update Round Two

I was doing great today.  They gave me emend and aloxi to ward off problems.  I was doing so great I ate a chicken sandwich (I've been living on Ensure) and some kind of strange lime slushy.  Last ten minutes of therapy, Danny claims I turned blue grey and begin barfing.  I must have the wimpiest stomach on record!!!

They gave me 1 mg Ativan IV and I slept pronto for 2 hrs.  Then I woke up fine.  Had my Ensure for dinner...sigh.

I go back tomorrow for a liter of IV fluids; I have to hand it to the doc and nurses--they are really trying to help with my nausea and hydration issues.  Also get neulasta tomorrow and they told me to take claritin and tylenol.

I know you were there with me today!  I felt everyone and I am absolutely determined to get through this and prevail!!!  I have a wedding to make next year :-).

    Hi CC

It sounds like you have great doctors and nurses who are on your team.  I am so glad they are trying their best to get your nausea and hydration issues under control.  You are an amazing woman CC and I have no doubt that you will prevail!!!

    Hugs to you,

    Ginny

P.S.-  What's your puppy's name?  She is so cute! I am sure she brings you a lot of comfort.  Dogs are the best!

    I'm so sorry CC!

I really thought the Amend would help.  I have noticed that they seem to give Ativan to some of the chemo patients now.  It does knock them out for a couple of hours and the patients are told that they need someone to drive them home.  I sure hope they can find something that works for your sensitive stomach.  It's just not fair that you have to deal with nausea!!!  I'm praying for you and I have no doubt you will prevail.  Maybe you should avoid the strange lime slushy next time?

    HUGS!!!

I have been supplementing my strange diet with Vietnamese pho (no bean sprouts).  I mainly eat the broth and rice noodles but then I follow that with a full glass of water or ginger ale because it makes me thirsty.  Don't seem quite ready for cream soups yet, but the pho is a good start I think?

    Cindy Lou came from a

Cindy Lou came from a Lafayette, LA shelter and I saw her at Petfinders.com and fell in love.  Danny, who said we needed a break from a dog (our standard poodle had died the year before), looked at her photo and melted and said, that's a really cute dog."

She was with a foster family and her description was, "This dog needs a lap!"  Well that was it for me.  I called and a nice team of volunteers drove her closer to me and she was ours :-).

We have had her 11 years now and she is very hard of hearing and getting cataracts, but she still just wants a lap.  And she loves a bed, so she is very happy to comfort me when I am not feeling well...Lol.  She is absolutely the sweetset animal I have ever own--and I have sweet pets!

Cindy Lou was her shelter name and we kept it because she kind of reminded us of the dog in "The Grinch" (not so much of Cindy Lou Who).  The vet says (in his best country voice), "Well, what I think you got here is some kind of terrier, poodle, dachshund mix." We call her a designer dog and she is perfect.

Jamie, you are so right about

Jamie, you are so right about the lime slushy (Sonic).  I rarely drink anything from fast food places.  I probably would have barfed on a good day...lol.  Next time, I am bringing a little cooler of my odd drinks.

I truly believe making it through these treatments is figuring them out like a very difficult puzzle or mystery.  I believe we can find the resources and/or meds to make our treatments work.

My big goal now is to stabilize the nausea a little better and my diet and then get back to work!!!  I am itching to see my babies and coworkers!!!

    Hi CC

I just finished 4 rounds of Taxotere/Cytoxan. I had emend the 2nd round (for 3 days) it helped some. I used to eat chicken soup. mashed potatoes (with either a few drops of oils and lime juice or some milk and very little salt), rice, bread, yogurt, cheese, bananas and grilled meat or chicken. My nurse told me no Mayo, mustard, fried foods or spicy foods. I am glad you are having the immunity shot this time, make sure you ask your doctor about pain killers.

Hope this will help. Good luck

I'm so sorry to hear all this

I'm so sorry to hear all this stuff you're going through. I can tolerate most things but nausea is one thing it's hard to get around. Hoping you find something that gives you nutrition and satisfies the stomach. We already know you're an amazing survivor and will do what you have to do to overcome all this. You're also an inspiration and have such a positive attitude. I always look forward to your posts even tho I don't post much anymore. You're in my thoughts and prayers and hope you get back to work soon. Love, Sunrae

    Looking Great Cynthia

Hi there pretty lady ! I am going for a wig consultation next week but I kinda like me without one too. Everyone says I have the perfect shaped head for being bald lol ! I've thought about you and I'm sure if you read my post today the reason why I havent been in touch here for the past 5 days. Sorry ! I hope you are feeling better, why is it that you can't eat ? Is it the vomiting ? I am so happy (knock on wood) that I have not had that problem and have been able to eat almost as much as I normally would being 2 weeks into my last treatment. We both have the same treatment too, remember ? :o) I am due for my next treatment on June 6th. Did you find your second treatment worse, better, or the same ? I'm just curious to maybe sike myself for that next one ? Have a great morning and keep in touch.

    Lisa, I began losing my

Lisa, I began losing my appetite before chemo due to the liver mets.  I was having heartburn and nausea along with the loss of appetite.  Chemo, of course, made this all worse.

The oncologists believe this will improve as my liver tumors shrink and I am hopeful.

Nausea has always been my personal weak spot.  As a child, I had terrible motion sickness.  Nausea throughout my pregnancy.  Struggled with nausea and vomiting during my first chemo in 1987.  I don't know why I have suffered with this as none of my 5 siblings have had the problem.  One difference I have wondered about is the fact that I had a severe concussion after a fall at age 4.

At any rate, I know my nausea issues are unique and I hope others don't worry about it, because I am just a big weirdo about nausea...Lol.

So far, I am doing well after second treatment.  Knock on wood because my counts bottomed out a week after first round.  I did have neulasta this time, so hopefully all will go well.

I haven't made it to work in a month and that has me down.  Hoping to get there within next few weeks, but, my coworkers say it is crazy busy right now and to take my time.

I am not sure about the wig, but it was actually one of the only ones that fit me.  Lol, I have a large head!  I really want a shorter, sleeker one for our hot summers.

Good luck and stay strong!  Big hugs!

    Glad Round 2 is better

and I hope it continues to improve.  I don't want to hear that you're in the hospital again - and I'm sure you don't want to either.

I'm developing a lot of expertise in the wig department unfortunately.  The wig I have on in my photo is gray.  It was inexpensive and is a cute, short cut I think. And it comes in a couple of variations of grays.  It sounds like it might be what you're descibing for summer.  It's a Rene of Paris Zoe wig.  I should get a photo of my hot new wig, tho.  Unfortunately I don't know who makes it but I love love it.  And it's blonde (the color I used to color my hair) and dark at the base.  I get many compliments on my wigs, whether I'm blode or gray.  Since I got the blonde one, I haven't gone back to gray, but you just never know what I might do next.

Work will be there when you're feeling better.  I'm going to think about the nause this way, as it subsides, you will know the liver tumors are shrinking.  Or something like that.    Take good care of yourself.

So glad to hear that you are

So glad to hear that you are doing well after your second treatment.  I hope the neulasta does the trick.  I'm the one in our family of 6 kids who always suffered from motion sickness, too; I commiserate.  I've heard this tendency  goes along with thyroid conditions. Best wishes sent your way!  xoxoxo Lynn

    Lynn, Funny you should

Lynn, Funny you should mention thyroid issues.  I have been on thyroid meds since 1982.

Running a low grade fever tonight (99.9).  Drinking lots of fluids.  Will get WBC checked tomorrow.  Hopefully, not as low as last time.  I do not want another hospital stay!!!!

    Cc,

I hope this week's treatment will be kinder for you.  I often have a low grade fever (99.9) and even had one last week when I did have my treatment.  My counts are always low but never got as low as yours did when you went to the hospital.  They gave it to me and I seem no worse for it.  I do hope you don't have another hospital stay.  They are not any fun.

    I don't want another either.
