Hello again,

I am just wondering if any of you saw a Psychiatrist when you were going through this treatment?

Also, after you finish your treatment, are you then let be for a while, until your follow up scan that is, or is there ?  I am sure the side effects continue on for a while but as far as treatment goes?

Many thanks.

    I saw a psychiatrist AFTER

I saw a psychiatrist AFTER treatment was finished.  My Mom was dying from CHF and I needed someone to talk to, yell loudly with and be able to say ANYTHING to.  Friends and family should not have to listen to me rant and then be sworn to secrecy!  Secrets usually get shared eventually!

I did not see a psychiatrist during or after treatment. I recently (2wks ago) posted a question asking if anyone had social work intervention as part of their treatment and got a variety of replys. Psychosocial intervention is very broad and can cover emotional issues through connecting with community financial resources and anything in between. If time read through some of the replys.

Everyone is different and just like physically we all heal, recover, and move forward (hopefully) at different paces.  Some have a strong support system to lean on some don't and others have no need for such services. Just like an ocologist the hope would be for a good connection between patient or (client) and psychiatrist but almost even more so in this case. If this is something you are considering please shop around for recommendations.

Services were available at the hospital, but I did not use them. I think it is an individual choice. I did join a cancer support group for women, which was so helpful for me. After treatment, I focused on healing and resting. It toook weeks to feel somewhat normal again.

    Thanks everyone,
    My sister

    Thanks everyone,

My sister has just started to see a psychiatrist, at the very end of her treatment.  I think it will benefit her as she keeps it all to herself, puts on a very brave face for all of us.  Whilst this has made it easier for all of her loved ones, as she does not complain, I think it will take its toll on her.

As someone mentioned above, everyone is different and heals each in their own way, I just wish she would complain more.

Treatment is over now, as horrid as it was, she was told she did well but I know she could not have stood one more day of it.

I'm happy to hear that your sister has completed her treatment.  There will be some bad days ahead, but she will soon start feeling better and notice improvements, which I hope will lift her spirits.  It's good that she is now seeing a professional who she can talk to and release all of her feelings that have been held inside.  I think it is so easy for people with this disease to blame themselves, which IMO is totally wrong.  I hope she can work through this and come out knowing that she did not cause this disease and that she can move forward.  I wish her swift healing!

Good for her!  I also keep

Good for her!  I also keep things to myself.  With treatment and side effects this is long term.  I DO NOT want my grand kids to remember me as "Grandma who was always sick".  So I hold stuff in.  Therefore I see a psychologist.  I can say anything I want to without upsetting anyone.  On those days when you wonder if it's all worth it?  When you can't get more than 20 feet from the bathroom?

I DO talk with my spouse but after 2 years, I feel he's heard plenty!  So I guess the psychologist is a paid sounding board...
