edited April 2013 in Esophageal Cancer #1

Almost 2wks ago my dad was diagnosed with Esophageal cancer then had a CT scan done. It showed that it has metastasized into his liver & lungs. He was then told he is Stage IV with a year or less given. He had a cyst on his head that complained about, but was told that it would go away. This was almost 3 months ago. He just had a biopsy done & was tested + for ca. If they had done this in the past, they could have dx him sooner. How I wish they did.

He has his appt this Friday to have a liver biopsy done & MUGA for his heart.

My father is a fighter & told us that he will fight the Ca with that he's got. Long as he has 6 kids, 9 grand kids, family & friends...we are all optimistic and staying positive and praying for the best.

    Welcome to our group

Welcome to our group. I am sorry you find us under these difficult circumstances. The one thing we have learned in this group over time is that “guesses” on the part of our oncologist about how much time we have are frequently not accurate. There are survivors here who have lived far beyond the estimates they were originally given. Unfortunately there are some who have less time.

One thing is clear, a positive attitude and the support of a loving family make a huge difference in the amount and quality of time an esophageal cancer survivor has. I am glad you Dad has chosen to live with cancer rather than surrender to it. You will find other Stage IV survivors here who can offer advice.

Hoping your Dad’s tests go well tomorrow.

    Best Regards,

    Paul Adams
