Scared and hate waiting!!

Hi everyone, Just was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes to get results back from a D & C.  I had a hysterscopy and D & C done yesterday due to some bleeding. I went to ER when it happened and they could not find anything, I then followed up with my Dr. He tried to do a biopsy in the office but he could not get my cervex to dialate so I had to go in for the D & C. He found 10 polyps on my uterus which did not show up on internal ultrasound. He removed them and now I'm waiting for results. I can't sleep or concentrate on anything, all I keep thinking is if I have Cancer. Is 10 polyps bad opposed to 1 or 2?? My Dr. emphasized quit a few times that he could not believe I had 10!! Should I panic now?? I'm 42 and never had anything like this, I had a baby 4 years ago and have been fine until the one day I was bleeding really really bad and there was no pain or cramping with it!! I am so scared as I'm sure everyone is, Any answers would be wonderful(:

    Question

I don't have an answer for your question but I know one of the gals will be along soon with some info.  In the meantime, hang tight.  We understand the anxiety you are going through.  I found long walks helped me to deal with those times, especially before I found this site.

I will keep my fingers crossed that your results will be ok.

    Hello

I had a D&C, hysteroscopy, and right oophorecotmy (sp?) on a Thursday last year.  Called the dr. office the next Tuesday and got the results.  This was triggered since dr. considered me post-menopausal.  Everything was fine.  Are you in menopause yet?  Perimenopause can cause lots of changes in bleeding.  Good luck and think good thoughts.  It could be anything.... not necessarily cancer.

    Try not to panic

Polyps are simply the overgrowth of endometrial tissue. From what I have read, endometrial polyps are generally considered benign and having multiple polyps does not increase the risk of malignancy. In a study of 513 endometrial polyps from patients at Yale-New Haven Hospital, only one of 40 polyps in women under 35 contained cancer cells. This number increased among women older than 65, but the majority of polyps were still benign.

I understand your concern, but the odds that you do not have cancer are in your favor. Please try not to panic. I know, that is easier said than done.

    Welcome

Welcome to one of the only sites that I trust for uterine cancer info.  But keep in mind that everybody is different and waht happens to one does not mean it will happen to you. I had a D&C done back in 2004 which the gyn dr said I had polyps which was causing me to bleed post menopause.  I was 48 at the time and had stopped all periods back when I was 36 due to stressful event. My mom passed away.  The D&C stpped the periods again till 2011 when I started bleeding very heavy and having pain.  I had another D&C and this time they found cancer and a tumor along with other beign polyps.  The waiting time both times was about a week for me to get the results.  Both times I trusted my gyn dr and did not think cancer.  I cause I was nieve but that did not cross my mind.  I will will be two years from surgery April 8 and so far so good no reoccurance or no evidence of diesease (NED).  Take a deep breath and try to relax because going through all the what ifs is not good as it causes stress.  Good Luck and let us know the results. trish

Hi and Thank You so much for

Hi and Thank You so much for replying .No I am not in menopause yet. I had my son 4 years ago and since then I have gotten my period the same time every month like clockwork.  I am really hoping and praying that this is all just hormonal. The waiting just is crazy, so much goes through your mind. I'm trying to just not think about it until the Dr. calls. The 10 polyps just took me by surprise considering I had an internal ultrasound and it showed nothing. Again Thank You so much I will post results as soon as find out.

The odds are in your favor

that this is not cancer, but anything growing in us that shouldn't be, certainly makes us worry. And to have your surgeon comment about the number of them just adds to that worry.   I hope you get your pathology reports soon and everything is benign.   My endometrial cancer was indeed found happily growing in a polyp.  Only had one polyp, but I had cancer.  But I was 63, not 45.  I had been told when I was about your age that I had fibroids.  After menopause, these benign growths typically go away.  I also still had a fibroid.  Go figure.  Takes about a week for pathology results.  Waiting is difficult.   We'll wait with you.
