I have not been on this board for awhile because all seemed well. I am an anal cancer survivor - it has been 2 years and 3 months since I received the good news that it was all gone. I now got an abnormal pap and am scared. did any of you have this or have any word of advice? it's mildly abnormal LSIL (Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion). This means that there are mildly abnormal cell changes on your cervix. my gynocologist will do a biobsy and test the cells further just to make sure its nothing bad. she said i tested positive for hpv. what should i do?

I do not know this to be a fact, but have heard quite a few survivors of anal cancer say that their doctors have told them abnormal paps can be quite common after pelvic radiation.  That said, I would think it's advisable for you to go ahead with the recommendations your gyno has made.  There is nothing you can do about the HPV, as you probably already know.  However, the LSIL may be treated with a LEEP procedure.  I have not been through this, so I cannot speak from personal experience, but it is a common procedure, typically done right in the doctor's office.  I hope your biopsy will come back negative.  Please keep us posted.

    leep procedure?

    Pap

I have had irregular papa in the past after having cervical dysplasia.  That was treated by freezing in my 20's.  They would wait and take a pap again in3 months and it would be gone.  My immune system would destroy the cells.  I have had only one pap since tx and it came back normal.

I hope everything comes out  ok.

    Thank you

Thank you Martha... I will check this out. My gynocologist said that its super mild and that she is not worried about it but did a biopsy anyway given my history. I will know more by next week and hope that it is negative. Good to know you are still on this board.

I've been through it and all is okay

I experienced the same thing, had a LEEP, and discovered all was just fine. My gynocologist explained that due to my history, pathology errs on the side of caution.  Don't worry!
