Low white blood count

in Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin) #1

Hi everyone. My sister had a low white blood count and has been this way the last 3 times it has be checked. Doctor said they would check it again in a year because they have to wafor lye lymphoma.shebhas not been sick but did have the Cdiff virus after surgery last year.  Does this sound okay.   Thank you.

    Low WBC

    Hello Janei!,

     

    I am not sure what cdiff virus is.  But many of us have had our journeys with low white blood counts.  As for me, when my wbc were low, I was given a "day after" shot of nuprogen.  This brought my wbc back to normal.....at least until after my next dose of treatment.  I usually knew when my wbc were low, it seems my energy was equally low.  Now, you mentioned low wbc, but how low is it?  If it's not that bad, the good dr may be waiting to see if the counts increase without meds.

    Does your sister's doctor have a plan for the low wbc?  It may be agood idea to ask what are his plans.  If you are uncomfortable with his/her response, perhaps a second opinion would be a good idea.

    They are "going to wait a year to re-check her WBC?"  Something aint right there.  Very low WBC can be very dangerous.  They should have been treating it and checking it daily, if not more often than that. Someone misunderstood something in that conversation.

    that's a long wait..

    I am also curious, how low are her white blood counts? If the doctor is wanting to wait a year, they musn't be that low? Still, if they are even considered low, it's something to look into more often than a year...

    C-diff was my monster- spent 16 days in agony watching and waiting for my doctors to come up with a solution for it. Then spent 30 days in medical rehab learning to walk again from that awful malady. The cure for c-diff is VANCOMYCIN - I repeat VANCOMYCIN - they tried 5 different anti-biotics before my colonoscopy Dr. stepped in and insisted that vanco be given - in 4 days I was like new free from the pain and agony of c-diff.

    I believe cdiff is a bacteria, not a virus. My mother lives in a nursing home and suffers from it. It is truly an awful disease. I just hope I do not get it from my visits to her. But i will keep going as she needs me and asks for me.
