    Suggested foods
Fruits think variety, small servings, colors! eat at breakfast for best digestion, something different every day
Veggies fresh or frozen, think green mostly and lots of variety also red, orange, purple, yellowand something different every day
Corn - organic only as most US corn is genetically modified
Potatoes - both sweet, tubers, red, baking only in moderation as they convert to starch/sugar
Salads every day dressed with juice of 1/2 lemon or organic apple cider vinegar and cold-pressed olive oil
Meat - 2-3 oz servings of free range, grass-fed beef, skin-free chicken, duck, turkey, turkey sausage and bacon in moderation
Fish - from cold northern deep water seas, haddock, cod, sole, Trout, sardines, salmon, occasional crustaceans in small amounts
Nuts and seeds toasted, use in salads pine nuts, walnuts, almonds, pecans, organic nut butter freshly ground
Berries - fresh or frozen huckleberries, raspberries, marion berries, blackberries, blueberries, wild strawberries, gooseberries, lingonberries
Beans - well cooked or organic canned all varieties
Condiments - mustards, vinegars, olive oil, shall 1tsp unsalted butter, homemade sugar-free ketchup, veggie spreads
Breads - eliminate white flour products, white sugar, baked goods try organic pumpkin, date, banana breads made with gluten- free, almond or oat flours

I have HCC with HVC and in late stages. Appetite can be very compromised or none at all and you can try smoothies at those times or very small meals of one food at a time. I use supplements vitamins anti-stress B, vitamin C, milk thistle, plant lignans, calcium/vitamin D3, co-enzyme Q10.

I was HCV diagnosed in 1989 and I am certain my diet helped stave off cancer for years. Hope that helps and don't hesitate to contact me if you wish!

    Your quest for answers
You don't say if the cancer was a result of long time illness but mine is from Hep C diagnosed 1989 and i was given 6 months to live. Cirrhosis slowly formed in my liver and HCC is a result. I have never had chemo, drugs, chemical embolization, radiological ablation, or any other procedure except for surgical intervention - a liver resection 11/11/11. Now an aggressive HCC has occurred in my right lobe and I am facing a lobectomy 1/4/13.

Every patient responds differently to treatments and combination of treatments. This could be the reason one person will do well w/chemo while another calls for surgery. I know nothing about Y90 so you might start a new discussion to learn how it works, what the average response is, etc. A healthy diet will always contribute to a patient's overall health.

My daughter educated herself about my cancer with the same desire to help me live longer. It has brought us closer and it is so important to my support. I admire you for seeking information, keep at it - you will find answers. Your support for your mom may give her strength to survive longer. My daughter gave me a book - "No One Has To Die Alone: Preparing For A Meaningful Death" by Lani Leary. While my daughter seeks ways to help she also wants to help me prepare for the inevitable and I am so grateful to her for all she does. We were always close but this illness has given us many ways to make connections that give me hope and strengthens our bond.

I want you to know I am praying for you and your mother ans that you are never alone.

Thank you. Good luck on your surgery in Jan. My mom was diagnosed with primary liver cancer that is also in her portal vein. My mom doesn't have hep. C or cirrhosis. My mom also had a resection done one November 11 of last year. The doctor told her by having that surgery she would at best have 12 to 18 months. It had been 13 months now and the cancer is back and she has two spots on her lungs.

My husband also has a recurrence of his HCC

How did your lobectomy go?  I felt such empathy with you because of what we are going through.  Last June, my husband was diagnosed with HCC and at the same time we learned he had chronic Hepatitis B which caused it.  The tumor was large, 13cm.  He had a liver resection in July and at that time the borders were clear.  In January, we learned the cancer returned; he has another large tumor in his liver and possible small tumors in his lung.  He started on Nexavar a couple of weeks ago.  We go for a follow up appt with his oncologist tomorrow (and also a bone scan).  This is such a difficult journey, but I agree with you that it does bring people closer to each other and also to God.  The verse we've clung to these past months is from Isaiah (41:13) - For I am the Lord your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear, I will help you."  I am praying for you and hope you are doing well.

    Diet

Where did you get the information to formulate your diet plan. I have 15 year old family friend who is fighting this disease and his family is also trying to incorporate an organic rich diet/low sugar diet while at the same time trying to keep weight on him, which is a struggle.
