Go up to the top where there is a picture of a magnifying glass and it says "search CSN content". I never had vaginal sores and don't remember the discussion. I would imagine they will heal pretty quickly. Hang in there! Are you using a warm sitz bath? I found that it helped quite a bit. Pat dry and let the air get at your bottom as much as possible. I remember lying on my side on a big towel spreead out on the bed, without pants, to let the air get at things. I hope relief comes soon!

Have you contacted your doctor about this?  I would definitely call and tell him/her or the nurse about it.  Perhaps you can get a script to help.

So sorry you are going through this! Don't forget to drink a lot of water to dilute the urine and use a squirt bottle( I used an emptied Poland Spring sports bottle) to squirt on yourself when youare unrinating. Also, don't drink anything acidic, like citrus drinks.

I did not use lotions and let the air at it as much as possible. I hope your doctor gives you a good solution. It does get better in time and soon you will be much better!

    Sending you big hugs!

Thank you so much for the advice. I just am so tired of being in pain! I cant even concentrate on my family cause of all this. I wear big baggy pants all day to try to let it breath. Can not even go out in oublicc cause I can not wear anything that rubs at all :( I am so tired and feel so ugly from all this :( I just want my normal life back and at this point I see no light at the end of the tunnel :( Thanks for the hugs :)

    Ouch!

Towards the end of treatment when it was most difficult,  I went commando & wore my long summer dresses. When urinating was at it's most painful, I used my portable bidet. For those of you in the US sitz baths are commonly available. My burns healed really quickly, but I only used salt in the bidet to wash myself after every time I urinated or had bm. But take heart, it won't be long and you will turn a corner. Best wishes, Liz

    Going commando.....relief!
    Lisa,

I did the same thing Liz did. When I was at home, I was bare bottomed as much as possible. I recommend putting on a skirt and getting out for a little fresh air at least once a day for a short time, especially if it is sunny. Soak up some vitamin D! Also, I can't stress enough how important getting extra protein is to promote healing of the skin. Eggs, peanut butter, yogurt, fish, chicken....whatever you can tolerate, several small servings a day.

    Hang in there!

    Vaginal Sores

I am on my 13th day of radiation and I feel your pain.  The things that I am doing besides crying and climing the walls is:  Frequent sitz baths with warm water and a little antibaterial soap.  Right now I am laying in recliner with legs wide open and a fan blowing on the minefield.  If I get agitated it really gets worse.  I have tried acquafor, A&D and even powder.  I really don't think I will be the same for a longtime.  The burning and the ITICHING makes me want to just scream.  I touch myself so much you would think I was a 15 year old boy.  If anyone can helps us, I will try anything.Cry

I am sorry for your pain. The sitz baths are good, not sure about antibacterial soap. That is very drying to skin. Also, I came to the conclusion that lotions made the situation worse! When you are radiated, any residue makes the skin burn! They tell you to wash off any lotions before radiation, which is not possible for most lotions. From reading posts here, those who use lotions burn much more. I suggest that you let the air get at your skin as muc h as possible and you leave the skin clean and unlotioned. Some people used Benadryl for the itch. The hospital that I went to uses evidence based treatments only. They told me that the only cleanser to use was Dove for Sensitive Skin Body Wash.
Use a handheld shower to bathe and soothe. I was told absolutely NOT to use A&D lotion. You are not far into your treatment so my guess is that you are getting early burning because you are putting too much on your skin which could be making the burns worse. Less is more here.
Hang in there! You will get through this!

    Ouch!  Those burns are soooo

Ouch!  Those burns are soooo painful!  I had second and third degree burns from " hither to yon".  I debated adding this, but on the site we are truthful soooo..  I actually ended up in the hospital for two weeks after treatment with pnuemonia, infection, and neutropenic.  Had two blood transfusions, and was in semi isolation.  Part of this was my fault (I think) because I insisted on going home the day after treatment even though it was a two day drive.  I just HAD to get home!  Anyway.... 15 months out and NED.

the hospital actually had a wound care specialist who had treated radiation burns before.  I think she may have been an army nurse.Cleaned burns e very three hours with sterile saline and gauze, let dry and then used biafine (I think) ointment on them.  Within 3 or 4 weeks were much, much better.  My daughter actually flew in and took over my "wound" care in thehospital and taught my husband how.  NOW THAT WAS EMBARRASING TO SAY THE LEAST!  My daughter says SHE didn't see anything!

Short story:   Don't insist on traveling anywhere for awhile, try to stay out of restraunt and gas station bathrooms, rest, commando is best, long dresses awesome, cool water on burns and the bet of all?  FANS!

PS....  ThisIda the only time I used the air built into my car seats......ahhhhhhhh....cool heinie!

Hi Lorikat - Your post made

Hi Lorikat - Your post made me laugh - about your daughter not seeing anything and about the cool heinie! I have taken care of my mom in the recent past (not for cancer, but for other things) and I can absolutely assure you that your daughter didn't see a thing. The mind turns off from 'seeing' anything when you're caring for someone - really!

    Thanks Rose!  I also took

Thanks Rose!  I also took care of my Mom.  I didn't "see" anything either...  But when the shoe is on the other foot?  Yikes!  I claim amnesia for my time in the hospital.....

    Vaginal Sores and Itching

Thank you for your reply.  I thought the lotions and creams made me itch more, not less.  Starting into my 4th week and very scared of what is yet to happen.  April 8th starts another round of chemo.  Dread, but anxcious to get it over with and check the results.  Thank you to everyone on this site.

    Dove

My oncologist recommended Dove Body Wash on private area.  No antibacterial soap on private area as it dries your skin out . The Dove seemed to work well.
