PET scan

Onc said little other than he wants me to have a PET scan and will then see me back.  I asked him about my lab work and if he was concerned.  He said he was not overly worried but it has been 2 years since my last PET scan, so he wants to make sure nothing is missed.  Sigh....

Now here is the funny of the day.  He was concerned that I am getting prone to hives because I have a weird rash on stomach again.  That is so not a rash.  My weird cat, Impy, kneads on my stomach so much I don't even notice it anymore.  I really need to cut his nails...lol.  My onc rolled his eyes and said, "Weren't you in the hospital last year with a cat bite."  But that was my neighbor's cat, not mine...lol. Laughing

    P.S. Katherine is banned from

P.S. Katherine is banned from accompanying me again.  She tattles and told my onc that that was not the only time I had a cat bite.  He can't say much because he is looney for his dogs.

    PET Scan and Pets....

Oh CC, no answer just another test.  You did expect the PET scan and it is very good to follow up when everything isn't in that perfect groove.

How long before you have a PET scan?

I understand why we don't bring our children along, they have strong opinions just like us.

Maybe a towel over your stomach area when you have the cat on your lap?  Smile

    Your cat sounds wonderful!

Your cat sounds wonderful! 'rash' and all.  Cats who snuggle are the best, I think.  But that is a funny story.

My kids are younger as you know, but they don't come to appointments either.  I want to be able to 'edit' any information to an age appropriate level...I can't have the little darlings freaking out.

Let us know about the PET scan...you don't seem to worried.  I hope your doc finds nothing worrysome.  Be sure and let us know when, so we can gas up the bus.

    Hugs,

    Linda

    I envy you!

How did you manage to go two years without a PET scan?  I had my first one in June last year and I get one every three months now.  I hate them.  The only test I hate more than a PET is a colonoscopy.  I hope the next PET can be scheduled in the morning because the afternoon appointments are just too stressful for me.  If we have to go so many hours without eating, why can't those hours be while we are sleeping?  If you agree with me, I hope you can get a morning appointment and I am praying that the results are nothing but good news.

    HUGS!!!

    Doris,
    Impy's nails are now

    Doris,

Impy's nails are now nice and short--no more rash Wink.  But the towel is a great idea because I can't cut his nails unless Danny is home to help.

Waiting for insurance approval for PET scan.  That usually doesn't take more than a couple of days.

    For Jamie

    Jamie,

My oncologist doesn't like PET scans, so all I have is a ct scan.   It is the only one with my back that I can tolerate.  I don't care where it is now, the lungs are the important ones to keep up with, this is a vital organs.   Lungs or the liver (which doesn't have cancer) are the one that will do me in.  So a ct scan it is and it takes less than a minute a lot shorter time than it was with the PET scan.  Though it was the PET in combo with the ct scan that originally found mets in the celiac nodes.  However, unless I'm complaining, there will be no PET?  Yours are in the lungs too, right.  Maybe just a ct scan will do.

Have your hours adjusted.  For my port last week the girls says nothing after midnight for surgery at 12.  I said, no way.  Ther hours where then adjusted to the latest 5:00 AM.  I had surgery at 2 PM and then I didn't get up (set the alarm clock wrong) until 6:12 AM.  Boy, did I eat fast and I told them 5:30 AM.  I knew that extra 40 minutes  didn't matter and my doctor told me to go ahead and sip water to make it easy to access a vein.  He told me, don't tell them either!   They operate with people who have eaten in an emergency situation, don't they?  It's best if your completely empty, I am not knocking that but adjustments can be made.

Best to you on your next,

    Doris

I was the same way when

I was the same way when Katherine was a child.  She is now 31!!!  She was just 4 when I was diagnosed.

But It's funny how I still want to protect her.  I am feeling relieved now that she seems to have a good guy who is very emotionally supportive.  That really takes some pressure off knowing she has another support person.

I try not to be worried.  A wise and funny coworker once told me, "Don't go lookin' for trouble girl!"  when I was anxious about test results.  I really try and live by that advice because if I stay too anxious that anxiety just cuts into my happiness.  Of course, the lexapro doesn't hurt either Wink.

My two cats are sooo snuggly.  I am proudest of Grizzly, a large grey Maine **** lookalike, because he was a feral cat who had to be slowly domesticated.  And I mean slowly.  He used to hide constantly, sooo skittish.  Now, most days, he is either in my lap or sleeping next to me (or on Danny's lap).

Impy (his real name is Impulse because Danny said he was a bad impulse on my part Wink) has always been a people person.  He used to run to greet us when we walked the dogs.  I thought he belonged to the neighbor where he usually hung out.  He started looking raggedy and then I rang the neighbor's doorbell.  Turned out he was homeless.  I couldn't resist him.  Off to the vet for neutering, shots, deworming, treatment of an abscess and treatment of ear mites.  Guess he is really mine cuz I have the vet bills to prove it...lol.  Although Danny grumbles because he is sometimes overly affectionate, he really loves him too (I see him curled up in his lap as much as mine).  He is just very appreciative of a home!

You sound like you have cats too?  I would love to hear.  There is something so sweet about a cuddly cat--especially when you are feeling bad.  Mine are always happy to snuggle up in bed when I am sick Smile.

How are YOU feeling?  Thinking of you and sending healing thoughts and prayers.

    Linda,

I think it wise to limit information to your teenagers.  They don't need to know everything.  In fact my sons came with me one for the surgery and the other for treatment.  This is the first time, I have allowed it.  I am always careful what I say, they know the disease is terminal but I am not dying tomorrow either.  I won't tell them everything until I need to contact pallative care and then when it is hospice, they will be involved.  I will go over all the information they need to know in regarding to my life, my assets and etc.  Why burden them with it.  Spouse is different.

    Your very wise.

    Cats

I had a needer, a stray I took in too.  Loved that cat but oh what he did to my clothes and me.  I had a thick towel and the cat didn't seem to mind it.

We had cats all the years the kids grew up.  After the divorce, when I moved, we still had them but something was getting them,  We were more in the woods on a back state highway than at my other home.  So finally, when we lost the last cat, I said, "No more" we can't go through this again and it's not fair for the cats".  Finally, one found us and it was that chill minus 40 below zero kind of night.  The kids said, "mom!" and I said, of course, let him in.

I made flyers, put them out at every major places, post office, general store, schools, church, town hall, fire department, recycling center, the kids went door to door - "is this your cat?".   We were relieved, we had fallen in love with him.  I took him to the Vet and it was a Her.  Had been fixed and the vet said she looks well cared so it must have been someone who loved her.  We always wondered what happen.  Why didn't they search.

She remained with us the rest of her life.  She had cancer and we had to let her go.  I cried my eyes out, my sons had tears in their eyes, (of course, they wouldn't cry) at least in front of me.  I understand the comfort of cats.
