Pat Derby - I had the pleasure of meeting her once. She was the founder of ARK 2000, and PAWS, the Performing Animals Welfare Society here in central California.

"It had to begin with elephants.
I was born in love with all elephants:
not for a reason that I know,
not because of any of their individual qualities,
- wisdom, kindness, power, grace, patience, loyalty -
but for what they are altogether, for their entire elephantness."

PAT DERBY, 1976, THE LADY & HER TIGER

I had no idea Pat was struggling with head neck cancer.  She lived less than half an hour away from me, and just a few minutes from where I work.  RIP fellow warrior.  Yours was a life very well lived.

Deb

    what powerful words

and what an incredible picture. Just touched my heart. It really illustrates what following your passion is all about. Thanks for posting that and giving me the opportunity to know of her! I printed the poem for the insightful nature of it's message.

    So sorry Deb

I recently lost a very close friend of 44years.  He was a coach and he had over 1,000 people at his funeral because he touched so many lives during his 61 year life.  Why do the good ones go early?  I know how you feel my CSN friend.

    all the best to you,

    Steve
