Hi everyone. I have been reading this board for a couple weeks now ad I am scared I may have anal cancer. I am 29 marriEd with a 3 year old son.  I am frightened beyond Belief.

I saw a GI about 3 weeks ago he performed a DRE and said everything felt normal but ordered a ct scan. CT scan was normal except for a small leaking ovarian cyst which would explain right pain in groin but not this tailbone/buttock pain I am experiencing. I had cervical dysphasia very mild about 9 years ago hpv related So when googling my symotoms anal cancer appeared and convincef I have it now.

Anyway pain is constant in buttock tailbone area. I noticed a tiny hit of bloos two day ago after painful bm.   Checked myself and don't see any tears or hemorrhoid.   I guess I am just wondering the chancEd this is anal cancer given clean ct scan and DRE.  Thanks for any help.  I am just so scared.  Going to colorectal surgeon tomorrow andl overwhelmed with the worst case scenario.

It's good that you are seeing a colorectal specialist--also good that the CT scan you had did not show evidence of an anal tumor.  Nonetheless, the colorectal surgeon should do a thorough exam on you, including digital rectal exam and anoscope, which is a short scope used to view the anal canal.  It is usually only slightly uncomfortable and requires no prep.  Talk to the doctor about doing one prior to the exam.  I hope all turns out well for you.

I am glad you are following up, as many patients would not know to do that.  Anal cancer is rare, but also hpv related.  You know your body better than anyone and if you feel something is wrong you are smart to address it.  I hope its just inflammation from constipation.  After your dr visit you should know for sure.  If it were anal cancer just know it is very curable, and thats the 1st thing I was told by my general surgeon.  Keep us posted, and I hope you won't be joining our discussion board. Sorry you are feeling anxious. It is a pretty good sign that the CT scan was clear and the DRE was clean. Still, you do need to see a colorectal surgeon. Try not to worry. I know that is easier said than done .

Thanks for the quick responses guys.  Are anal cancers usually missed on Ct scans?

    CT Scan

I don't think it's correct to say that anal cancers are usually missed on CT scans.  CT scans are one of the ways anal tumors can be seen and they are used routinely for follow-up after treatment of anal cancer to check for recurrence or metastases.  However, no test is 100% foolproof, so I suppose it's very possible that some cancers would not be detected on a CT scan.

    Thank you

So I saw the colorectal surgeon and he confirmed my levator muscle is in spasm! Probably due to my anxiety as of late.  He said I do not have anal cancer as he looked inside with anoscope. Thanks again for your help. I wish you all the best! You guys seem so string and amazing. God Bless.

Thanks for getting back to us with your good news.  I'm glad no evidence of anal cancer was seen on your scope.  Just keep an eye on things and don't hesitate to get checked out if symptoms return.  It sounds like all is well and I hope that continues for you.  Best wishes.
