Did everyone get a flu shot?

Angie2U
Angie2U Member Posts: 2,991

My husband got one, but, I didn't as the last time I got one, I got the flu, literally, within a few hours.  I know they say you can't get it from the flu shot, but, I did or else it was the strangest coincidence ever.

The news makes it sounds so bad so I am struggling if I should chance getting the shot.

Thanks, Angie

    I got mine in October

Not sure if the body of this note will appear.  I just tried to post to Karlee's sad news and only subject appears to me.  You may have been exposed to the flu prior to getting the shot.  Linda

    I didn't get one

I didn't get one because years ago when they had everyone getting the swine flu shot I had a serious reaction.I crawled to the phone to call my doctor to say I think its the shot.He said impossible. No one has had any problems.Soon after it came on the news people were dyiing and some were paralyzed.I couldn't walk good but just pulled myself to a chair etc.Didnt got to ER since my doctor said it wasn't a problem with the shot but it was. About 3 weeks I had back pain.It was maybe 4 hours it was very hard to walk in the beginning and had to hoist myself in a chair.

I worry very much about not getting one.I was very very sick with Bronchitis in Sept and still feel the effects.Even took IV's vitamin therapy to get boosted faster.Still  mucous after almost 4 months.Just this week it is better and hope it stays that way. This stuff lingers!!!!

I've been reading in our papers how bad it is.This time last year only 85 in the hospital. This year 2.000 since Sept.I got this crude from my grandson. Now I am paranoid to go into stores for all the coughing. My husband is doing the shopping. He was able to get the shot. And all he says "People shopping are coughing everywhere".He goes the other way,If possible.

I know of 3 people who had problems with the shot.My friend got sick and my aunt. My husband had a heart attack just 8 hours after getting one a few years ago but he gets one now and he does fine.He also got the pneumonia shot and did fine.I guess the heart problem would have happened anyway.Who knows but he does fine with the shots now.

And some of you may have read my pozt.My daughter in law is in critical condition now.Has been for almost 4 weeks. She got the flu shot(from what my son remembers) a month before she got pneumonia. She's on life support. Her fevers shot up to 106.My son said he wished she didn't get one but seems like enough time passed. But why is she so bad with it.

With all I have heard bad

With all I have heard bad about it I am afraid to get it. And plus being on chemo that diminishes your immune system would it work anyway? Can it boost a immune system that isn't there? I don't want to take the chance of getting sick on top of all the side effects I have now.

They are still giving them in our area BUT they have a shortage and won't have any till maybe Wed. A couple babies have died, a 22 year old college student and my daughter in law is on life support(she'll make it)The stats for hosptial stays are unreal.Thousands instead of less than a 100 at this time last year.A epidimic.A new strain from what I read. And they say we have 2 more months of this.

AHH - the 1976 Swine Flu Vaccine -

it was nasty to many!  I am one of the 'lucky' ones as I had to have it as I was AD (Active Duty) at the time so was ordered to have it.  Hubby was also AD at the time - he had it also with no problems.  Several of my friends were not as fortunate.  We all talked while in line at the basse theatre that it seemed strange that for just another 'shot', they had all the Base ambulances lined up outside in the parking lot.  Many were used.

Need to remember that the flu vaccines of today are so far more advanced than the 1976 Swine Flu vaccine.  I have had the current year's flu vaccine for more than 30 yrs and have not had any flu!  Even when I was going through chemo/rads.

My prayers are with your DIL.

    No 'strange' coindence

Day 1 -You were already infected - vaccine is a KILLED virus.   It takes DAYS for a live (or modified live) virus to exhibit in the body no how matter it was introduced into the body.

Are vaccines 100% - HADES NO - but they are for the vast majority.  All our bodies are unique and react differently.  In the 1991SW FL Mesles Epidemic - both of my Sons did develope Measles (it's all State/Nationally documented)  even though they were CURRENT (less than a year since last MMR) on shots.  (Hubby/Dad was deployed on a carrier in Desert Storm - older Son was not expected to live - he did. )Today, neither of them have any mumps immunity (according to tittres).  Because the MMR didn't 'work' for them - that has  nothing to do with the vast majority that they do - THankfully did work for G-daughter according to titre.

We can all argue all our beliefs - I will do anything I can to prevent getting anything and even more important to me - passing it on to others.

    Flu

    Angie2U,

This year I got the Flu Shot I think before Christmas. And I'm just getting over Bronchitis and the flu. I had it a week, Im still coughing but I feel better now. My doctor told me the flu I got isn't covered by the flu shot. It is terrible, so if I were you I would get the flu. It helped from me not getting any worse. The news also says the flu is spreading like wildfire.

My husband and I both got the flu shot.  No reaction and, thankfully, no flu.  There is LOTS of it in our town.  I have gotten the flu shot for many years (worked at a hospital where it was more or less mandatory.)  The worst reaction I ever had was a sore, warm arm for a couple of days.

    Yep!

I get one every year. Last time I had the flu was 22 years ago. I hope I haven't just invited disaster!

The vaccine of the year rarely has the current bug in it, but I believe it helps to fight whatever is out there.

Hubby worked in an elementary school and I work in healthcare and we have happily evaded the flu, I believe due to the shot.

I have friends and coworkers on both sides of no problems/it made me sick. Today, my employer sent out an email - get the shot, or wear a mask for the entire workday til the season is over.

I got mine in November 2012.I

I got mine in November 2012.I need to get the shot every year because of my asthma. It is so awful when I get it and it takes up a home in my lungs. I cough and cough so bad I urinate every cough and have to wear pee pads in my underwwear. Unfortuneately I got the flu anyway this year. I am just feeling better today.

I learned that the flu shot may not stop you from getting the flu, but may help from getting a worse case. Who really knows. All I know is that I need to take all the precaustions I can.

Next time my partner comes home and tells me one of his coworkers has the flu, I am stopping the kissing right away.

    Yes

My oncologist strongly recommended it and I get one every year anyway.  I actually got mine in October since I was going to be traveling.  So, far, so good.  Also, on Saturday I got the pneumonia vaccine per my oncologist's recommendation.  I just turned 60.  No reaction and hopefully I have some immunity now.

    A few

    No flu shot for me.

A few years ago my OB-GYN told me that I probably was better off not getting a flu shot.  Many of us who are in our late forties or older did not grow up in a disinfected society.  We also endured the childhood diseases of measles, chickenpox, mumps.  As adults, we tend to miss fewer days of work because we don't catch everything that comes our way.  (I work in a school.)  Our bodies had to work harder at keeping us healthy.  They succeeded, at least in my family.

Unless one's immune system is really compromised, most of us of my generation will do just fine without the flu shot.

My onco did not want me to

My onco did not want me to take it as he feels my immune system is still not strong enough.  I also read where the flu that is going around now and unfortunately killing people, is not protected by the flu shot they are giving.  It is for a different type of flu.

    I've heard some

I've heard some that did get the flu shot are getting this bug.I'm sure some even have passed.Don't know what this crude is but it is something everyone is talking about how they can't get over it after a few months and some seek IV treatment Like I did.Healthy men have also been hit the hardest.Everyone tellls me they are on their 3rd round of antibiotics. Still not better so they don't help but IMO it has to help some.

Saw on the new last night the kids who have died.Family members were on TV telling how it just hit and within a couple days some were gone.Told a little about these children/teens.It was so upsetting.

Also hear this is the worse it's ever been. I went to the doctor yesterday.Been doing my best to say away from there.I got a antibiotic to get this last mucous out of me.The receptionist there was sick 2 weeks ago when I went in and yesterday still sick. Also the other recepitionist. I know they had their flu shot. I got out in my car and put the sanitizer everywhere where I was exposed.Arms hands and a little on my face. What I could stand.Even had a wet wash rag with soap in the car just in case.My husband thinks I lost it but he didn't have this crude. He knows I suffered though for to long. Next is allergy testing. If Ihave them it all happened with this virus.Never had a allergy(except maybe meds) that didn't agree with me.But I might now. It just weakens you for a long time.

And of course our daughter in law we pray for everyday. She's a fighter.
