It all started with breast cancer

Hi I'm Victoria, 16, and my mhas was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2009. Since then, the cancer cells have spread to her spinal and brain fluid and her bones. Last yr, doge doctoEd gave her 1 month to live but she is still here. we went to Maryland to go to NIH(national institute of health) and got a brain MRI a few weeks ago. Lately my mom has not been doing very well. She has an ommaya reservoir in her head which, is for chemo to kill cancerous cells in the membrane. She has not been eating lately and stays in bed all day. I'm really worried. I hope she doesn't die

    Hugs

Hi Victoria--I am sending you a big hug and am so sorry that you and your Mom are going through this.  I hope that you have friends or family that you can talk to to share your fears and get some support.  If its ok with your Mom, you might be able to talk with her doctor or a case manager/social worker at the place where she is getting treatment.  They could give you a better idea of what to expect with her condition and treatment and help you through this tough time.

    Take care,

    Penny

Call the Patient Advocate At Her Cancer Center!

    Hi Victoria,

You are awful young to carry the burden of your mother's health care by yourself.  Is there someone in your family that could help go with you to visit her oncologist and find out what the prognosis and what to expect in the days ahead?

If not, call the CancerCenter your mother goes to and ask to speak to the patient advocate who handles your mother's oncologist cases.

Your mother has stage IV breast cancer while there is a lot hope with treatments, there is no cure.  Please seek some help for you and your mother.

    Best to you,

    Doris
