to honor my mom

I have not posted in quite some time. I hope all of you who recognize my name are still doing well! My story is that my mom was dx in '07 with stage 4 CC. I was her caretaker through out her battle. She went through the "usual" with treatments, oxy + avastin, K-ras mutation, folfiri + avastin, back to oxy, had sirspheres. She passed on to a better place August 29, 2010, peacefully.

 

I'm doing as well as can be expected with respect to finding a new normal, but still miss her tremendously. I know that will never subside. I check up on those whose names I remember to see how you are doing, some are still here some are not.

 

The great news I have is that I have been recently contacted by Hospice, the chapter organization who took care of my mom at the very end and was asked to sit on their board. I am very humbled by their request and am ecstatic to part of this great organization. I thought I would share it with all of you and I can't think of a better way to honor the memory of my mom. I continue to keep everyone on this board in my thoughts, keep fighting and may the new year bring a cure!

    A Mother's name

     

     

    You’ve already honored your mom by having taken care of her in need. Nothing measures up to a child’s care for a parent! That you still feel the need to do more for her memory only proves how wonderful a daughter you’ve always been. And I am sure it contributed to her satisfaction and comfort. When I read your post, the lines of an unknown poet I read on the net years ago came to my mind

    No painter's brush, nor poet's pen,

    In justice to her fame,

    Has ever reached half high enough,

    To write a mother's name.

     

    Good luck in future office, I am sure your Mom would have been pleased!

    What an honor for you and your mom's memory

    Having been such a supportive caregiver, you'll be a great asset to the local hospice board.  Congratulations!
