Pre-Existing condition?

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

My Medical Insurance company is starting to question weather or not I had a pre existing condition. I'm on my wifes insurance, she is a nurse at a local hospital and, one would think have excellent insurance, it is expensive enough. Any body else had this BS thrown at them?

It's bad enough having to face Radiation and Chemo therapy with all the stress of a life changing experience. If insurance pulls the plug we would be ruined financially, as it is we will have to take out a mortgage on our home to pay for those "little extras" insurance doesn't pay for. Thankfully we own our home, I just hope we won't have to lose it.

    This is a new one....

    How long have you been on her insurance?  I've never heard anyone on here who was told how long they'd had cancer before they got to the Dr.'s....I mean we can tell them when we first noticed a lump or how long our ear ached, etc........but how would one ever know?

    you should not have to lose your house

    There are programs in different cities, counties, and states that offer basic heath care and qualifications do NOT include your home. If for example you have spent down your liquid assets you coud qualify for coverage and keep your home and not go into any more indebtedness.

    Good morning

    For sure you don't need any more items on your plate right now.  What exactly is the insurance saying is preexisting?  Did you just recently get on this policy, and how does that time frame relate to when  you were diagnosed?

    Where Do You Live?

    In my state, you would still be able to get insurance.  Like most here, I'm considered "uninsurable", but since Ky must offer insurance to all, I can get covered by the Kentucky Access program for about $650 a month.  Granted, the coverage is not as good as the coverage through my former employer, but it's still much better than what I get through my current employer.

    Diagnosed?

    If you were not diagnosed, you did not have a pre-existing condition. You may have had a symptom. But any symptom could mean many things. Unless a doctor has identified a condition, it just does not exist. Well, that's my opinion for what it's worth. Rick

    It's a good opinion, Rick....

    that's how I've always thought, anyway.  Untill something is diagnosed, it ain't there.....and the precursers of throat cancer are varied from nothing at all to lumps in the neck....which, of course, are indicators of other things (given the fact that most of us went thru antibiotics ect before we were ever referred to an ENT)....

    Thanx Phrannie, and everyone else, you are all so supportive. I have been on my wifes insurance since Dec. 2011 and was only recently diagnosed ( about a week ago).

    I am in Florida, all these co pays are killing us, have had 3 operations so far: 2 biopsies and one on my bladder due to complications caused by the first biopsy, I couldn't pee, the operation is called a TERP (like a rotor rooter if you know what I mean).

    Thankfully have now lost the catheter I had in for over a month. Today at 7:00 am will have 11 teeth removed as I have been advised radiation would inhibit any healing in the mouth in the future. Those teeth really did need to come out, 4 are broken at the gum line.

    All this is happening before the battle with radiation and chemo. The s**id i***t at the insurance company keeps saying they are still looking into if my cancer is a pre existing condition, I agree, how would anyone know?  The insurance has paid some bills so far, hopefully they will continue.

    Good old insurance companies, gotta kick you when you are down.

    Well, since you've been on the

    insurance for a year....and were just diagnosed in the last couple of months, I'd say they'll be hard pressed calling it pre-existing.  Just what you need, something else to worry about, huh?
