My story

Let me tell you a story about me. First thing is I have cancer(C). I have been living with it for 4 years. End of May last year they told me that I have 7 years to live. Second thing I want people to understand that I have Learning disability (LD). L D makes things challenging to live with never mined C. The thirs thing I want you to know is I don't own a computer. I welcome phone calls, my phone is in the CSN directory. THe fourth thing I"d like people to know about me is that I have been fighting the system for support since I have been diagnosed.THere is no support group for rare kind of C like me. They cannot or well not find me a support person because there is NONE IN CANADA (?).I have other storis to tell on the phone or here so stay in touch but it will take longer to type.

Welcome to the group! It sounds like you are doing well. Let me suggest going to an ovarian cancer support group or sometimes there are just GYN cancer support groups. Ask your Drs and nurses for information on groups. They usually can point you in the right direction. I think you would really benefit from these groups.

    Dear Elizabeth
Sorry about your health issues and lack of support. I am not sure how to find your phone in the CSN directory. I am in Canada too and you can contact me by email kalner@sympatico.ca or call me (905) 960-8043.

I can assure you that there are multiple free cancer resources in Canada. Your oncological team could provide you with helpful literature and refer you to the free onco-psychologist, nutritionist, sex therapist, social worker in your area. I have met many wonderful volunteers in Canada, attended "Look Good Feel Better" workshop, participated in online workshops on alternative treatments, etc.

Don't get discouraged Elizabeth, you are not alone.

    Hugs,
    Alexandra

    Canada
Hi: I"ll second what Alexandra reports. I'm in Canada, too, and have had wonderful support through the local Cancer Centre. There is usually a WellSpring group in larger towns and nurses with CCAC help a lot too. Don't give up!
