Intervascular White Cell Lymphoma

My mom was recently diagnosed with Inervascular White Cell Lymphoma. I know that it is rare, but is treated with R-CHOP. She is feeling much better since her first treatment. Is anyone currently being treated for this type of Lymphoma?

    Extremely rare
    I had to look this sub-type up. It clearly is a very rare lymphoma, but being of Large B-Cells, it is entirely appropriate to treat it with R-CHOP. If your mom tolerates the Rituxan without allergic reaction, then treatment should go fine. B-Cells are known to react very quickly to Rituxan, and this cancer's inability to clump together into tumors may possibly even assist in its eradication. I hope that it never relapses, but it would be very worthwhile to seek out clinical trials and stem-cell transplant options now, in case of a relapse, as relapsed cancers seem always to be more difficult to fight.

    Yes, she has had her first round and it repsoned extremely well to Rituxan. It was amazing to see the difference in just 24 hours after treatment. Now weeks later her blood work looks very good. My mom is 82 years young. She was never sick. She was very active. This came on all of a sudden. One day she tought she threw her back out and the next thing we knew she was in the hospital with dehydration and high calcium in her blood. Even then she recovered and didn't know what she had. A few weeks ago, she was suffering from dehydration and a bad cough. This time it showed up in her blood work that she had some type of blood cancer. After a bone marrow biopsy this is the type of cancer she was diagnosed with. Unforuntately, because of her age, I do not think a bone marrow transplant is an option. I am very nervous about a relapse. I have been a wreck since this happened.

    You are right in that her age might disqualify her from having a SCT. Still, there may be a clinical trial out there that is worth looking into, as a form of insurance, so to speak. I know of a woman who, at 95, received radiation and chemo for multiple myeloma, and is reportedly doing fine afterward. So, hope is always alive.

    The bottom line is to enjoy every moment with her, as YOU may go first!
