I'm just checking in to let you know that I am ok.

My left eye is still a problem, so I have a limit on my computer time. If I go beyond my limit I get some pretty nasty headachers. I will get back on regularly when that eye is better.

I'm back on chemo, navelbine. That's been fine, a little diarrhea on day two. And my energy is coming back, even though my daily nap is still a lovely thing!

At one point in this mess, my husband brought up his worry about my mental state. I explained how hard it was to be without all of you, and that it would get better when I could get on line with all of you again. I have truly missed all my friends here.

For the newbies and those of you I don't know so well, please know that my heart is with you. This is a difficult journey and you have my support, thoughts, positive energy, good vibes, powerful mojo, and more.

I can't wait to get back regularly,

Hugs,

Linda

    Welcome back Linda
I have been missing you and wondering why you had not posted since coming home. So glad to hear that you are doing better! You have been missed. I know what you mean about the mental state being better after coming here. We are spiritual friends.

    Warm hug,
    Kay

PS: I just warmed some farm apple cider in a mug. Want to come outside and sit on the deck with me around the wood stove? Cyperly speaking of course...:-)

    Your battle with cancer and
Your battle with cancer and the shingles has been an inspiration. And, I knew, that you must have been suffering to not post. But I did very selfishly miss you! I am praying for a swift recovery and sending happy cyber thoughts. I don't have the warm cider, but cafe au lait and beignets at Cafe du Monde...well come on down!

P.S. Your children are so beautiful! The photo makes me smile :-)

    Hi Linda
Your eye is still bothering you (shingels) Do they know when or how long you will be having this problem?
Miss You and please get well soon.

    Shingles...sorry for the length
The usual course is 2-4 weeks, but there is great variation in how an individual heals after the shingles virus.

For example, the first time (age 54) I had shingles was on my left thigh, I caught it before the rash broke out and had little pain. The second time (age 59), I had it on my back and it started with writhing pain and I don't think I ever would have figured out what it was if the rash hadn't emerged. That time, I had pain for about 3 weeks.

Know the symptoms, especially if you are >50. If you even suspect that you have shingles, call your physician asap. If you take valtrex BEFORE the rash emerges, you will be much more likely to have an easier course.

"Early symptoms of shingles include headache, sensitivity to light, and flu-like symptoms without a fever. You may then feel itching, tingling, or pain where a band, strip, or small area of rash may appear several days or weeks later. A rash can appear anywhere on the body but will be on only one side of the body, the left or right. The rash will first form blisters, then scab over, and finally clear up over a few weeks. This band of pain and rash is the clearest sign of shingles." http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/shingles/shingles-symptoms

I sound like a broken record, but, if you can afford it and/or your insurance will pay for it, please get the shingles vaccine. We are immunocompromised and we will be the ones to get a more severe case and, as in my case, we will also be the ones to get it more than once! The current vaccine reduces the occurrence by 50% and also reduces the incidence of post herpetic neuralgia. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate. I will be 60 in 6 months, so I am going to cross my fingers and wait, because my insurance will not reimburse me until I am 60.

"Herpes zoster usually clears up in 2 to 3 weeks and rarely returns. If the virus affects the nerves that control movement (the motor nerves), you may have temporary or permanent weakness or paralysis.

Sometimes, the pain in the area where the shingles occurred may last from months to years. This pain is called postherpetic neuralgia.

Postherpetic neuralgia is more likely to occur in people over age 60. It occurs when the nerves have been damaged after an outbreak of shingles. Pain ranges from mild to very severe." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001861/
