Breast turning red and hot 4 weeks after lumpectomy.

Today I started getting red and hot on the breast that I just had the lumpectomy. It looks like a sunburn, but I have not started radiation yet. Is this part of the healing process? Please please don't tell me its an infection. I hope not.

Worried,
Kay

    Doctor
    Kay,

You need to call your doctor and get in to see him tomorrow. This is not normal and may be an infection. Please call in the morning and tell them you must be seen. Keep us posted and let us know. I've had infections before so I am very careful.

    We are here for you!

    Hi,
I had surgery 3 years ago. I too, had redness they put me on anti-botics for about 2 months. Today, I still have the redness. The warmth comes and goes. They can't explain why, just that's my body. Please see a doctor.

I didn't get a chance to get on here all day...
wicked day at work. But, after the day the redness is now just in one place instead of over the whole breast...hurts like heck too. I didn't even think about it all day because work was so bad. When I saw the breast surgeon on Tues. he said that the pain was normal and would not go away for months. But it wasn't red or hot then...so I wonder if it is because I was using a hedge trimmer yesterday and overworked those muscles? If it returns to the whole breast I will call him, per your advice dear sisters. I need you!

    Thanks,
    Kay

    You may need
to go to an urgent care center over the weekend. Hot skin is a sign of infection. Also you could get sick if you let it go. If we are wrong about our suspicions then no harm done. But if we are right it needs to be taken care of.

    I finished my "hard chemo"
I finished my "hard chemo" mid jan, rad end of Mar. I hired a pers trainer end of June, I was lifting weights, doing push ups etc....My left breast (not site of lumpectomy) but lower turned red, I was swollen and the area was HOT. Onc was very concerned, we did biopsy came back neg but due to symptoms there was fear of inflammatory BC. Now I am not allowed to lift, carry, stress out left side at all for 6 months....No matter what, please see your Onc!
