I believe there is a big convention of all European ontological Docs in Vienna , Austria.

It is from 28 th sept till 3 rd October.

Even my oncologist from India is attending the same .

I hope they come up with some new and bold protocols for treatments and to keep recurrence at bay.

If anyone had any insights throughntheir Docs as to what new treatments or protocols or studies are offered pl post tKhem as

I am sure pete_lost at sea can find something out for all of us while he is in Germany. I am sure many of the top notch german oncologists will

    Hi Sdp
Sdp, did you have your 2-stage liver resection done in Brazil or Germany?

How are you doing? Are you on chemo? Did you have a scan since your surgery?

Hope something promising comes out of that convention.

Would you mind asking your India oncologist about the convention and posting here again?

    Thanks.

I got my laproscopic sigmoid colon resection and liver resection done in Germany at univ of Regensburg . This was from July till end august including RFA to two tumours in liver.

I still have to commence my adjuvant chemo , which I will do after a week or so. Have done 10 cycles of FOLFOX plus erbitux pre surgery and two more to go post surgery. Currently, I am two months from the last liver surgery recovering. Have some pain in the right abdominal area and mild fatigue etc.

I have had an MRI post surgery which was required for the RFA and also a plain CT scan without contrast to check the presence of fluids in the abdominal area post surgery. Other than that no scans. Docs in grmany said that I should get a scan done after a month from the end of the adjuvant chemo. So that means approx two months from now. Last blood work , post RFA, showed CEA and CA 19-9 levels within the normal range.

I will ask my local oncologist about the ESMO meeting and get back. I am meeting him on coming Monday to discuss the adjuvant chemo.

    Thank you
That sounds great!!! I am so happy you got that behind you. I was thinking you had a rare (2-stage) liver surgery, but it doesn't sound like you needed that.
Yes, would love to hear what your oncologist says about the ESMO meeting.
I asked an oncologist yesterday if there is anything exciting in the pipeline.....he said besides these latest 2 drugs Regorafenib and Zalrap there is nothing that will be out in the next couple of years. I hope he is WRONG. What is going on with all the research?? We don't need more of the same type drugs.

Hope yours has some encouraging news.

Actually u could call it two stage
    Janie,

My liver resection was done three days apart , the doc had originally planned to do the resection in one stage whereas all opinions from USA where they agreed for a resection was for a two stage resection with a gap of one to two months between the operations.

In my case the first liver resection was dome on 30th July and then he stitched me up and did the nest on 2 nd august. Gap of 48 or so hours actually.

Why ? Cause the doc thought there was some damge to liver from the chemo and hence didn't want to handle the liver for more time at one time than necessary. Hence, even during the second resection operation he did not do the RFA and stapled me back up.

According to him RFA to two tumours could be done percutaneously later. Hence RFA was actually then done much later , almost a month after the liver surgery on 7th September.

    Pete,
can u pl tell me where in Germany are u going for your treatment.
