Shaved

I shaved my head today! It isn't a big deal to me, because I have been mostly bald on top for years. No combover for me. But I won this round, I took my hair off because I chose to, not due to side effects from treatment, and it is empowering to me. I am gearing up for battle and I am going to be high speed low drag. Cancer beware you chose to screw with the wrong guy.

    proactive shaving
    good one. :-)
I waited too long to shave my beard. one side was falling out, the other wasn't.
a bit depressing, that. if I'd just chopped it off to start with, could've been laughing and thumbing my nose at the radiation...

    shave your head
    Hi Jim,

There is still (pretty much) a no grow zone around my neck, a few stragglers, but that’s all.

    Best,

    Here's to Getting There First
I started out with long hair, got it cut, then let some fall (OK, a lot fall) before I did the big shave. Many of my family members were against the idea - oh well - my head, not theirs.

Way to say "you're not hurting me this round, cancer - taking my hair isn't even a valid threat". Keep it up, Jim.

    Hair
Had long hair to start , the gal who does my hair works with the look good feel good program suggested I cut it short prior to it starting to fall out, the first time some came out while I was shampooing went to get mine shaved as well. My niece went with me we had a blast , spiked it , did a Mohawk then came the clippers, my niece ink own to me after I was done had her long blonde hair shaved as well...tears by me and others in the salon at this act of love, while I lost all hair including eyebrows and eyelashes, this kid kept hers shaved the whole 6 months she was with me.Never wore a wig or scarf, ball caps if it was too hot outside, I liked the bald look..so easy to take care of...my hair started to grow back sometime in Feb of this year..but heck it's just hair. I like your attitude to cancer,.. Keep the good fight, kick its **** , there's a new sheriff in town. Good luck with the treatments keep us posted. It's one day at a time.

    Blessings,

    I did the same thing
When I was told I immediately went and had my head shaved. Irony is I never lost the hair on my head but the radiation, not the chemo, zapped my beard all in one night. Woke up, beard was gone and I never did find the hairs.

    vaporized?
your whiskers just vaporized? wow, that's some powerful rads.
but better than waking up with a bed-full of hairs, I suppose. ewww.

ok, this is kind of freaking me out: the radiation made my eyebrows grow. they were already unruly, but now they're out of control. they look like bat wings, lol. if I let them go, they could scare small children.

    Good for you, Jim.
It's nice to actually be in charge of something in this process, so YOU decided what was going to happen to your hair. Way to go.

I only lost the hair in the back from ear to ear, but it was about a 4 inch patch, so I just let the top grow long over it. Now I haven't had it cut in 20 months and I am growing it out so I can donate it to one of those Locks of Love wig programs. Maybe one day my hair will help someone else.

Good for you Jim. I feel like I got the short end of the stick this weekend when I looked in a magnifying mirror only to see 3 strays under my chin that I thought were gone forever. I finished tx in May and I thought the lady beard and mustache were gone forever. No such luck. My hair did not thin out dramatically til about 3 weeks post tx but by then hair was small potatoes.
