Cancer survivor is now a naturopathic doctor

You can see Doctor Joe Brown's incredible story at
www.DoctorJoeBrown.com

Dr. Joe Brown, Naturopathic Doctor, has more to offer to patients than his knowledge and expertise. He offers his personal experience in battling cancer. In 1998, Dr. Brown was diagnosed with late stage III melanoma cancer. After extensive therapy he was told his prognosis was grim. Through the use of Naturopathic and Integrative Medicine, he was able to overcome that prognosis. Today, he has been in remission since 1998.Dr. Brown's passion stems from his personal experience in battling cancer and being told his only two options for survival included chemotherapy and radiation. He has focused on learning all he can about new and innovative therapies that have been shown to be successful in treating cancer. Through his expertise in Integrative Oncology, Immunology, and his personal battle, Dr. Brown helps patients diagnosed with cancer through their journey. It is important to him to supply the missing pieces that will support the conventional therapies of chemotherapy and radiation; bridging conventional medicine and natural therapies, creating a better prognosis. His quest and passion to make a difference in others lives led him to open his own clinic, in which all patients even those who are being treated with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy can begin other treatments such as I.V. Therapy, Injection Therapy, Acupuncture, Nutritional & Diet changes, and proper supplementation. Using these therapies simultaneously aids elimination of side effects of traditional treatments and stimulates the body's innate immunity so chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be most effective. Thus, utilizing both worlds of care, Dr. Brown provides the patient the absolute best treatment from both schools of thought.

    Thank you for this story.

"When Two Worlds Collide" - the integrative approach will be a fascinating development to witness as the fight against cancer progresses.

I've often wondered how much better I would have fared physically with the side effects I experienced last year during that grueling treatment had I been able to do some of those types of therapies to alleviate some of the side effects.

My quality of life during treatment might have been enhanced.

I was not in a financial position last year to pursue this option. I'm working towards a solution that would allow me to have this option available for my next battle with cancer, should it happen to reappear.

It would be nice to have that option available.

    Take care...Craig

    Interesting chap
The website desribes an interesting integrative approach- I am a little unclear whether he is a medical doctor (it mentions medical school and he calls himself doctor (repeatedly) but no mention of graduating from anywhere except naturopathic school) so assume he provides the naturopathic approach whilst the mainstream docs do the conventional approach? Or does he provide both?

    Anyone seeing this guy?

    More information
Dr. Brown is a graduate of Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences in Tempe, Arizona, July 2005.
He does not have a medical degree.
More information about Dr. Brown from a new cancer book....Defeat Cancer.

Dr. Brown chose to go to a naturopathic medical school instead of conventional medical school because when he had cancer, it was naturopathic treatments that saved his life, and he believed that he would be able to effectively help more people if he had a naturopathic background rather than a conventional medical background. Conventional medicine most often utilizes only pharmaceutical drugs to treat patients, and these drugs, by themselves, are rarely adequate for treating cancer.Although not required as part of his training, during his third and fourth years in medical school, Dr. Brown took it upon himself to work clinical rotations in hospitals, emergency rooms, and in hematology, oncology and radiation clinics. Here, he worked with some of the country’s top oncologists and saw cancer patients on a daily basis, learning the best of conventional medicine. This experience, along with his education in naturopathic medicine, has equipped Dr. Brown to offer his patients knowledge of both conventional and naturopathic cancer treatments. Additionally, because of the time that Dr. Brown spent in a conventional oncology environment, he has been able to build relationships with many oncologists and clinics. These relationships allow him to help his patients more effectively, and not only because he can refer them to a good oncologist if they need one. His work and collaboration with these clinics has provided him with a deeper understanding of conventional medicine and how to better help patients who are simultaneously undergoing oncology treatments.

    Not a patient
    Not a patient.
Dr. brown is from Arizona...were from Idaho.
I have lost a son from cancer and a daughter from an accident.
When my husband got cancer it just tore me apart...not another loss.
I am going to fight in every way possible to keep this monster
    from coming back on him.
Dr. Brown thinks there are other things you can do with or without
    chemo to help cancer patients.
I was just inspired by his story....thought it might inspire others.
I care so much for so many suffering with this horrible disease.
    Take care....Linda

    Chemo Rad & Alternative therapies
Nothing should be practiced without first trying the conventional medicine. Chemo and radiation are proven to work. Alternative therapies can supplement the conventional therapies to build immunity and stay in remission. And once conventional therapy stops working, we can do only alternative therapy because there is nothing to lose.

I am a believer of ozone therapy because cancer cannot survive in aerobic environment. Ozone is practiced in several countries and known to have cured cancer. Ozone water can be taken everyday to kill cancer cells and ozone can be injected in blood stream (which needs to be done by medical doctors only) to let the blood carry it to cure all impurities. the extra oxygen attaches to carbon monoxide and excretes as carbon dioxide after attacking all virus, fungi and bacteria. However in USA its banned but Europe and Latin America and Asia practice this. So once I am done with this, Godwilling I will go to Argentina to get ozone in my blood stream for permanent remission.

My friend's neighbor in her fourth stage colon cancer was told to go get her affairs fixed when she went to a wellness center and did a Vitamin C inject and that was two and a half year back. This was in Houston. She is fine now.

There are several testimonials about macrobiotic diet which alone has cured cancer and is now recognized by the federal govt for grants.

Qigong, yoga, ayurveda and reiki are known to be healers by regulating energy.

Essiac Tea is supposed to be a complete cancer blocker as it turns our system to alkaline.

I had asked my radiation oncologist and he agreed that western medicine should be tried first and then the alternative therapies to keep the remission going. My medical onc told me she does not disagree to me taking essiac but will not want anything that may somehow protect any cell during the treatment. So I am now waiting to finish treatment and then start ozone and essiac right after.

Just like we need antibiotics to beat some maladies, similarly chemo and radiation are quickfixes to buy us time and then we can do all the rest for stopping the relapse permanently and to continue living a healthy life.

    Self-serving promotion of "doctor"
I am shocked that a naturopathic "doctor" would stoop to this self-promotion. There has to be a limit on what can be posted on this blog. Testimonials by health professionals, even if they are naturopaths, should be banned entirely. How do we know that what the naturopath says is true? Melanoma is a the nastiest of cancers and if any of you have had personal experience with this malignancy you know what I mean. Ask "doctor" Joe of the evidence in his own case, and then ask him to provide all of us with the evidence that any complementary treatment has ever done anything to improve the outcome of malignant melanoma. My guess is that he can't do that. So, I hope that the CSN will remove this post once and for all. I suggest that those of you who wish to pursue this topic might want to put in a Google search for naturopathy quackery and cancer.

    Healthwatcher...and you are?
I think all of us here wear big people pants and can figure this stuff out for ourselves. We don't need moderators to protect us and ban posts.

...and I do know someone given 2 months to live almost two years ago with melanoma which has spread to the brain. Western medicine could offer nothing, alternative is keeping her alive.

    Anti Cancer Diet
The Anti Cancer Diet book was the first book I read when
my husband started chemo a year ago. Great book, think it
was a good start to better nutrition.

    Integrative Medicine
I'm a huge believer now. I wasn't before I started...in fact I was a bit on the skeptical side. I had to see results and boy am I glad I took a leap of faith and made that first appointment at my Integrated clinic. I've never looked back except to wish I'd done it a lot earlier.

I was told by my first onc that chemo may or may not work. If it did, it wouldn't work for a long time...my cancer cells would eventually mutate and adapt. Chemo and radiation are not a for sure thing. We all know someone who didn't have any benefits from chemo.

Honestly, I think it's a crap-shoot as to what will work, that's why I would never tell someone how to fight their cancer. It's a very personal choice and once of the few things as cancer patients, we have some control over.

To me it just makes sense. Use the best of what's out there and fight the cancer at all angles. Close all the doors to those cancer cells that want to leave the nest. Make the environment for cancer inhospitable. Zap the tumors, starve the tumors.....whatever works.

    it's a coincidence
Spending a great weekend with a 100 integrative doctors who will do their best to care for you using the latest integrative tests. The science and biochemistry is fascinating, my jet lagged brain exploding. If my amino acid tallberg therapy helps I will explain it.
I am looking at training to become an nd now. That's a naturopathic Doctor. That way I can write off the travel on tax, I only have one patient.
    Hugs,
    Pete
