Somehow, I ended up with 5 outside cats! We never had any pets of any kind for like the last 20+ years. Then about 2 years ago a cat started stalking the gophers in my yard, which were really getting to be the bane of my existence so to speak.

Ah, I thought this cat has redeeming qualities..so I started feeding it. Then it had kittens. OMG, she nursed those kittens until they were about 5 months old. Then she got pregnant again. (i tried to capture her to take her in to get her fixed but she'd only barely let me pet her) Anyhoo, she apparently abandoned the new kittens and continued to nurse her first litter of 4.

I had the very mistaken idea that if the first litter was out of the picture then she would go back to her newborn babies. So, I gathered up her 4 kittens and took them to the local animal shelter with the full intention of adopting them back one at a time. My bad.

That turned out to be just about the worst thing I could ever have done. I might even go so far as to say that was in fact one of the worst things I have ever done. You see, I thought I was saving the abandoned newborns and could get the kittens back after paying their adoption fees. The shelter didn't even wait the required 3 days before putting them down. All except one who had scratched me. He was put into quarantine for 10 days.

Meanwhile, mom-cat was beside herself and literally walked around the perimeter of the house endlessly crying for her kittens. I cannot begin to describe just how horrible it felt knowing I had caused this poor animal such incredible grief.

After a few days of this I went back to the animal shelter, met with the director and quite bluntly told him that as soon as that cat was out of quarantine it was coming home with me. One way or another. I don't think I realized it at the time but the animal control officers actually carry guns in my area! Not that it would've mattered.

Finally, after some ransom money for getting him fixed I took him home. I never thought that a cat could be so relieved and happy as mom-cat was when she saw Baby-cat! Mom-cat died a few months later and not long after another kitten made her appearance.

Sqeakers showed up on Halloween which if fitting as she is all black! I actually had an appointment made for her to be fixed a week before she gave birth. I didn't realize she was even pregnant. She also had 4 kittens. Found a home for 1 but not the other 3.

They are all fixed. Baby-cat is the only one who knows his name and actually comes when I call him! Last Thursday I took Skeakers in to the vet and she had her teeth cleaned as she had stomatitis and an abcsess. There's a lot of money to be made in cat teeth cleaning..cost over $200!

If anyone would've have told me 3 years ago that I'd be spending hundreds of dollars on getting a cats teeth cleaned, (before my own even!) I would've said you must be nuts!

And that is how I ended up with 5 cats!!! LOL =)
Thanks for reading my super long story!

    Lucky!
I have one beautiful (as you can see) Mini-Schnauzer, Abby (note letters re-mix to baby). She is 9 yrs. old and has been our god-sent gift to each other! Abby was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis when she was 3. To our horror, this is our 2nd schnauzer to have this disease, she has almost died 3 times. In return, she has been at my side through all of my illness and helps me tremendously. We call her my nurse. When I was so sick with chemo related side-effects she was there to comfort me and go get "daddy" when she thought he was needed or I asked her to. May I say, she's smart! She is currently living with chronic pancreatitis with lots of up and downs, she has started down the road of liver failure and has cataracts but she's got us to take care of her. She still plays alot by dragging her purple snake around the house and throwing balls at us. Life is good! We are blessed!

I have a 2 year old cat and his name is Raider. I got him a week after I had to put my other cat to sleep, he was 14. I also have 2 birds that are 5 years old. Since I as diagnosed on May 18th of this year Raider has been by my side, he sleeps with me in between me and my husband, and he follows me around wherever I go. It is amazing the instincts that animals have. They love us unconditionally. I would feel lost without my animals

    My babies...
I have two babies who I love very much....first there is Roger, we recused him a couple of years ago, I think he's about 5. He's a shitzu cross, we think with a poodle. He's black and white and totally rules the house, we adore him.

Then there is Barrie...he's my 4 yr old Stimsons python. Stimsons pythons are the second smallest species of python in the world. I've had him 3 yrs and he's fully grown at a metre long. He's very placid and doesn't mind being handled. I live in Australia and he's an Australian native snake. I have a special license to keep him, and most of the time he is kept locked in a special enclosure with special heating. Australia has very strict laws about what type of reptiles you can keep. Hopefully he'll live about 20 yrs.

This is a touchy subject in our house right now.

About a year ago, we had to put our 19 year old cat down. She had numerous medical issues. My daughter and I both really want another cat. My husband is adamantly opposed. So we've been trying to convince him...I think we are sloooowly making progress.

We do have an outdoor cat that was abandoned. It's just not the same as snuggling on the couch...

    Hugs,

    Linda

    I understand how you feel
I understand how you feel Linda. A few years ago we had two wonderful big dogs. Then we decided to sell the house and move into a retirement village, but they wouldn't accept large dogs. So we found new homes for the dogs, which broke our hearts, then, the house wouldn't sell. We decided not to have another dog because they tie you down, and we thought we might do a bit of local travelling instead. We lasted 4 months without a dog, and then we visited friends who had 2 little dogs, and I just had to have another one, so we rescued a little one. I can't imagine life without something cuddly inside the house and very cuddly. I hope you convince your husband soon to allow another pet in the house.

    Cheers, Annie

    I love pets:)
I've had several over the years, currently two dogs:)
Doc - is my 7 year old black lab (bred and breeds, from a very prominent bloodline)
Eros - is my 3 year old Itailan Greyhound (rescued from my local shelter)

Doc and Eros are my world right now and always of course.. They are the only ones that have never quit me. I happened upon Eros just ten days before I was diagnosed. I'm a big fan of dogs, but I love ALL animals:)

Our cat's name is Molly. She is 14 years young and acts like she owns the place. Got to love pets!! They are the best and keep me in check :)

WE have had many dogs over
WE have had many dogs over the years. Right now I have a Toy Poodle, he is all black he weights 6 lbs 9 oz but thinks he is 100 lbs. He has always been with me 24/7, Even when I was working He went with me every day. My first poodle was 2 months short of 17 when he died. He was with me the first time I went through this battle. And this time it is my new baby. Both there names are BJ. I named the puppy after the first one because he meant so much to us. The old BJ, was 9 when I Got him he was being boarded in a kennel where I was grooming. Know one would take him out or touch him because he was so mean. HA!! I thought he was beautiful. They was going to put him down so I started taking him with me to the grooming shop every day and working with him grooming him and put him on a diet. He was a 10 lb dog in a 18 lb body. Well the weight came off. And one day I told my husband I was bringing him home for the weekend. He of course said NO! He had heard about this little devil dog. Well when I got home with him my husband was sitting in his chair. BJ, came in jumped up in his lap and stared straight at him and them laid down on his chest. That was it he had my husband wrapped around his paw from then on and he never went back to the kennel except to go to work with me. My new baby is the sweetest little guy. I love him. And he too has hubby wrapped around his paw. I love to watch him play. When I am better I will continue training him. He already knows Sit, Down, and play dead when ya finger shoot him. He comes when called. And when he thinks he should be getting more attention he barks at you. He is my joy and is always by my side. When I was in the hospital my husband told me BJ, wouldn't play at all. He just mopped around. He missed me that much.

Hi pinky I had a male cat years ago and he had a blocked urinary track twice. I was told to buy him food that had less than 3.5 ash content. It is posted on all cans of cat food once I gave him that food I never had a problem with that again. I hope this helps you

Pinky I hope raider adjusts to the food. They can such a pain some times, but as you said what would we do without them. My Boy has been staying so close to me since I was diagnosed. In fact he will be 2 next month, so he is still a youngster. Hope all is well with you
