Social Security

I have seen that some of you collect social security while you are going through chemo. Does everyone get to do that? I never knew that. I guess now that my treatments are over it would be good to know if god forbid I have a recurrence.

    I havent worked since my
I havent worked since my surgery in dec. With chemo schedule and 4 separate abscesses that occurredthathad to be packed daily, I couldn't juggle it. I have no benefits. After a few months off icontacted SS. It took about 5-6 weeks after a phone interview to get SS. You apparently have to be unable to work for 5 months first before being eligible. There was no hassle or lawyers involved.
I do plan on going to work again this month. SS said they would still pay me each month for 9 months just in case the cancer reoccurred. After that it would be taken away if you make over $1010 per month. Then if you have reoccurrence and can't work again just call them and they said they would have a check for you the next month. Here is a number if you need to talk to them:1800-325-0778, 7am-7pm, m-Friday.

May you never have a reoccurrence or a need to call them but you have the info just in case.

I go back to work in September when school starts. Hopefully with fingers crossed I will not need to look into this because it came back but it is good to know.
