Partial Obstructions Due to scar tissue.

Hello all!

Just wondering if anyone has good diet advice, or any advice, that would help reduce occurrences of partial bowel obstructions. I watch what I eat, low residue for the most part. Still do not see evidence as to the cause due to diet. It may be the random twisting of scar tissue (3 abdominal surgeries) and nothing else. When it happens I switch to a liquid diet, ride out the pain, and wait. I am usually eating normally within 4-7 days. It happens 3-4 times every six months or so. To me it is a nuisance, but something I would rather avoid;)

Appreciate anything you want to share.

Enjoy every day you can!

Julie

    Obstructions
    Deb,

Just do a search using obstruction in the colorectal discussion boards. May also check out this thread http://csn.cancer.org/node/243489.

I recognize the initial pains now, stop eating and walk a lot. My surgeon said due to surgeries and radiation he wouldn't open me up unless it was life or death. If I stop eating immediately, I haven't had to go to the ER lately. NG tube sucks and by not overloading my stomach I can avoid having everything come back up and avoid the hospital stay. I suspect mine are partial blockages. It sucks that most pain pills (narcotics) slow your bowels so while riding it out at home Tylenol is about the best I try. My que to head to the hospital is completely unbearable pain, or vomiting.

Good luck, I am sure you'll get lots of information on this site;)
