Hello everyone

As you could tell from my previous posts, I was on a panicky emotional rollercoaster the first few weeks but things have calmed down a lot. I am having a nephrectomy in the morning.
I feel good about my decisions on the hospital and surgeon so expect all to go well. I will update you in a few days

Kathy

    Thinking about you
    Kathy,
I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and the days after surgery. I've been there and done that, as they say! Best of luck to you.

Good luck tomorrow, Newday! Don't be in a hurry to post after surgery. Concentrate on getting strong. But we do look forward to your post.

    Do's and dont's
Do drink the liquid plumber tonight
Do get a good nights sleep
    Do relax before surgery
Do think about all the NEDs to come
Do keep a sence of humor

Don't run down the hospital corridor with the IV attached
Don't even think about the Nathan's hot dog eating contest
Don't go on a roller coaster until next summer
Don't get on a Harley for at least 4 weeks

There, what more could you need? You have our thoughts and prayers and some expert medical advice from iceman thrown in as a bonus!

I fear my eyesight is failing - I thought you had a hole in your dress and were going into labour but eventually I discerned that you're nursing a pooch.

Tomorrow is indeed a new day - good luck and come back here soon.

    update
    Hi all,
I'm home. The surgeon said everything went smoothly. Recovering ok but had a couple of rough days. My original GI problem and had severe diarrhea for two days. Just as i was learning how to slowly roll over , sit up, stand, and shuffle across the floor, i had to learn to leap out of bed and make a mad dash to the bathroom, pain or no pain. But i survived. The doc said recovery would be a roller coaster where you have a good days, then days you don't feel good. I'll just have to go with the flow. Expecting to hear resulsts of the pathology report Monday.

    Texas,
I couldn't figure out what the heck you were saying, and finally realized you were talking about the picture. I see how glancing at the small picture it would look that way, but your eyes are failing you if you think I look young enough to be in labor. I.m flattered.

I'll let you know what I find out Monday. Thanks for the encouragement.

    Don't mean to laugh
But your graphic of learning to transfer and then doing Olympic sprints was quite the visual. Take time with your recovery. One question, do you have your own helmet?

if it's not one thing, it's another
Went to the emergency room today because I noticed a large bulge on the left sside of my belly and was told i have a large hernia. It wasn't there before surgery. I'm told it will require more surgery. Hate to be whiney, but I wish I could deal with one thing at a time.

    Fox,
No. Dont have one any more

    Another thing
    Kathy,
I was planning to drop you a note of encouragement since you are suppose to get the pathology results tomorrow, but, certainly didn't expect this when I logged in. I have no experience with hernias but imagine it is much less involved than the nephrectomy. That's no real comfort, I know; it's still surgery. Just know that you are in our prayers and keep us posted on the results and schedule.
    Keep the faith,
    John

    Path report confirms cancer
My doc called and said the report confirms that the tumor was cancer, an aggressive type, but that it was confined to the kidney. He said there will be no followup treatment. I will get a copy of the report and ask more questions when I go tomorrow for them to look at the hernia.

    How are you?
    Kathy,
I just wanted to follow up with you to see how things were going. Hopefully the hernia is no more than a nuisance now and that it will be behind you soon if it isn't already. Please keep us posted.

    Hi John,
    Thanks for checking

    Hi John,

Thanks for checking on me. It turned out not to be a hernia. Apparently it is a pocket of fluid that the body should eventually absorb. Could take weeks, even months. I'm going to post the rest up my update on the other thread I had going.
