May I ask those with cervical cancer where

in Gynecological Cancers (other than ovarian and uterine) #1
they are getting treatment from? My sister was recently diagnosed with stage IV b cervical cancer and can't get in to see a specialist at MD Anderson until June 11!!!! We are trying to find the best facility to treat her as her own local Dr has no hope for her.
1- Are you getting treated by a local oncologist at your local hospital Or
2- Are you getting treated at a cancer only facility? If so where?

    I'm so sorry your sister has been diagnosed and you all are going through this. I am in the DC area and am being treated by a local oncologist. I had surgery out of a local hospital by the hands of my oncologist and get my chemotherapy out of her office, not in a hospital. For radiation I had another local radiation oncologist that worked out of another local hospital.
    May I ask where your sisters cancer has spread to and if she has seen a gyn/onc or just a gyn. Depending on where you are located, starting treatment with a local doctor to get things moving isn't a bad idea. What are the specifics of her cancer? How old is she? These things will help direct her care.
    I wish the best to the both of you. There are stage 4 survivors and nothing is hopeless.

    She is only 39 yrs old. the
    She is only 39 yrs old. the cancer has metastasized to her lungs and lymph nodes :-( She actually went in for a routine hysterectomy that her Dr prescribed due to he said she had adenomysis (sp?) Unfortunately due to not having major medical ins at the time she had to apply for it and wait a year to have the surgery per the medical ins protocol. She applied and got it April 2011 and had the surgery this past April 17th. This is when they went in and instead of adenomysis it was cervical cancer :-( After her PET scan 2 weeks later they said it was stage 4b. Her Dr is recommending chemo and said at this point radiation is not an option. He told her this is what she will die from! :-( She is in the Ala area and is determined to fight!
    Thanks for your advice as we are all at a loss and in shock that for a year she was having this cancer take over her body while she thought it was something simple and fixable like adenomysis.

    I am 33, diagnosed at 32. I was misdiagnosed for over a year as well since all my paps were normal. Mine also metastasized to the lymph nodes, so had the radical hysterectomy, chemo and radiation. I am so sorry that your sister is facing such a challenge, but I do believe with aggressive treatment that she can get through this. They will probably recommend cisplatin/taxol or carbo/taxol as her chemotherapy. Some people respond really well to this and go into remission, even as a stage 4. your sister is young so don't believe all the statistics you read or are told. We are all unique, and I am happy to hear she is ready to fight this. Give her lots of love and support and never stop believing. Perhaps tomorrow they will find a cure.
