Well after my first week of chemo and radiation I must admit I'm feelin a lot worse than I expected. Mouth sores are getting bad I have the magic mouthwash now.The nauseua is very bad also and the Zofran aern't really helping. When I was in the clinic yesterday to disconnect the chemo they could see I wasn't doing too good so gave me an IV of Zofran boy that was good when it kicked in but only lasted so long Now I'm trying Zofran and Ativan but it makes me loopy was seeing double while trying to watch a movie! Am feeling tired and have no appetite at all but will have to keep trying but being on my own with no encouragement it's esay to not bother. Did anyone else feel this bad after the first week? I have no diarrhea but am constipated so another issue to deal, wouldn't want to be costipated further on when I'm sore and needing BMs!! How much longer can I expect the chemo side effetct to last? I have a 2 week break before more chemo.
Hope you're all having a better weekend
Louise

    I'm sorry you're feeling so
I'm sorry you're feeling so bad Louise. Maybe try sucking on some ice chips? That shouldn't make your stomach upset - and it'll give you some hydration.

Might want to ask them for something different than Zofran - that never helped me either, but there are lots of other medications that might help the nausea.

Really sorry - this is no fun. But you've got one week down. I hope you feel better soon.

    Louise--
I had nausea during my first week. I found hard candy to be good for nausea--also soda crackers. You might also try some gingerale or ginger tea. As for the mouth sores, you might try swishing with a mixture of water and baking soda or salt. Tiredness is to be expected. My appetite went on a downhill track from day one. I drank a lot of protein drinks, such as Boost and Ensure, as getting protein is very important. Eat whatever you have a taste for or can tolerate. Day 14 is when you will hit bottom with the chemo. Then after that, you'll begin to feel better. I hope you will feel better soon and that you'll find something you can eat. Be sure to stay well-hyrated! Take care.

    I too had terrible mouth
I too had terrible mouth sores and started diarrhea right away. I understand ginger tea is good for nausea and also keeping just a little bit in your stomach can help, like crackers, or little bowls of applesauce, broth, things like that. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time, but it usually lasts only about a week.
My doctor told me I could alternate Zofran and Compazine - so maybe you might ask him about that. Also, you may need IV fluids if you are unable to eat and drink appropriately. Also, the Zofran that dissolves under your tongue sometimes works better.
Hang in there, it gets better.
    Good luck.

    So sorry to hear
I am sorry to hear you are having a rough week. These side affects are similar but very individual too. Hopefully the nausea was the worst of your side affects for a while.
I say take the meds and forget about movies and just close your eyes and if you can, sleep. Your body needs the rest anyway to heal. I am still learning how to rest and I am nine months post tx. We are human beings but sometimes I think I am a human doing. I am my own worst enemy regarding resting and sleeping. When did I begin to think there is something wrong with it, I wonder? On the other hand, I do recommend seeing a good comedy, when you are feeling better. I can watch a good comedy over and over. One of my favorites, is "Analyze This."
    All the best,
    Sandy
