Home from the Hospital

Just a little note to let everyone know I am home from the hospital..Today was my first day waking us in my own bed. What a treat. As for the surgery the surgery took longer than the suspected. We knew before I went in it was not going to be a easy one. I spend 4 1/2 hours in surgery instead of the usual 3. The was all removed and my kidney was saved..I did develope some breathing issues during surgery and had to stay in the hospital for 4 1/2 days. They had me doing breathing treatments every 4 hrs during my stay and I was on oxygen all the time. Plus I was given lasix through a iv twice to help remove the fluid from my lungs. The doctor finally decided to release me yesterday..I will probably have to see a pulomary specialist. The surgeron does feel that I can get back up to what I was before the surgery in time but that the surgery is hard on the body and in my case on my lungs too, they were not in the best condition to start off with. Anyway overall I am not in to much pain now that I am home the only complaint and worry I have right now is my shortness of breath and not being strong enough to walk into the drug store yet. I tried that yesterday, not a good idea. Will get a wheel chair next time or wait till my lungs are stronger..I sure hope this is my last hospital stay..I really do not like the hospital..It took them over 2 hours to bring my pain when I needed them. I am really feeling much better now that I am home. Hospital care sure has changed over the last 23 years. I hope I never have to be under their care again...

Thank you all for your concern and prayers..This means so much to me.

    Its about time
    littledarlin,

Its about time you got out of the hospital. No fun having extra problems besides the RCC. Or should I say that you had, not that you have cancer. In any event welcome to the club. Sorry the initiation was longer than expected. Get well.

Thank you for the welcome home and for welcoming me into the club..I do not know the path yet on the tumor they removed but should find out the results at my follow up visit on May 18..Like you said in any event the tumor is gone..which is a good thing for now..So for now all I have to do is concentrate on getting stronger and getting well.

    That's the plan!

    So glad!
I am so glad to hear you are home. Going to the hospital is an ordeal. Sorry you had additional problems. The surgery is bad enough by itself.

Take it easy. I am three weeks out and still get tired a lot easier than I would like.

Keep us posted as you feel better.

    Hooray
I am so happy you are home! I am sorry for the complications, though. I will not bother you with more posts asking you how you are doing. I will send the private message instead, but no need to answer if you are tired! I know how it feels. Again, welcome home. And whenever someone, who knew I had a tumor, whould ask how I was doing - I would just smile and say, "There's less of me to love, but that's a GOOD thing in my case."

    Welcome Home!!
So happy you are doing well from your recent surgery. Yesterday I was a 4 month survivor. Spent 7 days in the hospital after my surgery. Had some complications but made it through. Was tired for about 3 months. This last month I have been feeling really good. So Hang in there it does get better.

    Welcome back...
    LD,

Good to hear you are home and doing well, sorry to hear you had a rough time in the hospital, but the worst should be behind you now. Take it slow and easy for at least two more weeks, try short walks several times daily and work your way up gradually. Drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest.

    Hang in there,

    Gary

    9 days post opt update...
First off, Thanks Everyone for the warm welcome home..
I am now 9 days post opt and getting better every day..I am moving around with ease and am in very little pain. Just using tylenol as needed. My breathing has greatly improved and I am now getting the volumetric exerciser up to 1750ml. So I am very pleased. I started walking at the hospital and have been sticking to it..So all is going good for this little die hard. Still waiting for the path report but not going to worry about it right now. Anyway I just thought I would let you all know how I've been doing since you all helped me so much...

Thank you all, for all of your support..

Well done LD and keep it going. For future voyagers - you can tell them it wasn't as bad as you'd feared, can't you?
