I had my last radiation treatment today! I am looking forward to slowly healing now and getting my life back. In the middle it sure did seem to be going so slow but today looking back it really went pretty fast.

Having you all here has been a major support. I am grateful to each of you.

I send good vibes to all and hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday!

    Congratulations Randy!
That's so awesome! I know what you mean about how looking back, it really seemed like just a snippet of time. In the big picture, it really is. I hope you are feeling up to doing something nice for yourself, if not right away, soon! You've been through a hard fought battle and you are deserving of something that makes you feel good. Try your best to ease back into things, listen to your body, and you'll do fine. I wish you all the very best with your recovery and hope you'll keep us posted on how things are going. Take care.

Congratulations!!!!! The treatment part of this is over - now you can focus on getting OVER the treatment - and you'll do it! Rest when your body tells you to, eat, keep up the protein - you did real good!

Denise - you'll be there soon too!

    Finished tx today
Way to Go!!! I know the relief you are feeling, at least emotionally if not quite physically yet. I started tx almost 3 years ago (on 4/13/09) and still remember all the major dates; especially the day I finished tx which was 5/20/09. I took brownies to the rad's office (my neighbor baked them for me; I wasn't up for it) to celebrate. Enjoy not having to go to an appt. everyday and listen to your body. It will tell you what you need; particularly rest.
May your healing be fast and all of your followups be NED! Welcome to the survivors' club! You just kicked AC in the arse!! :)

    Yay!!
That is a reason to celebrate!!! When you are feeling better in a couple weeks, I think you should treat yourself. Go do something, or buy yourself something, that makes you feel all gooey inside. Even if it's a $10 cd or going to see a movie and/or concert. You deserve it.

So proud for you! Hope you rest well tonight.

A terrific mile stone has been reached. Sometimes friends or family may think that "it's over" but you need a lot of rest right now and will need some extra TLC for the next few weeks. This was my worst period but at least you know most of your journey is behind you and you have come a long way. Remember your discomfort is passing and you will feel better in the not too distant future. Just take it easy. I slept 18 hours a day during this period because my counts were low. Your doctor will be monitoring your progress closely. Don't hesitate to take meds and stool softeners. I can't emphasize "stool softeners" enough. I found Colace to be much more effective than Ducolax and took up to six a day almost every day. They really make the journey much smoother (pardon the pun:-)

    All the best,
    Sandy

    Yippee!
    CONGRATUALTIONS!

Please take it very easy for a few weeks at least! My burns healed in 2 weeks and I cut my pain meds in half in one day (BIG mistake). After 3 days of miserable withdrawl symptoms, I called the docs and they told me to taper off over a week.

I felt I turned a corner after 4 weeks and now after 6 weeks I am taking an exercise class in a therapy pool to regain my strength. Digestion is still fussy so no fibrous foods yet.

I am so glad you are done. It gets better, and better!

    Thanks to all
Thanks so much for all of your support and well wishes. Havent been on the board much lately as sitting doesnt seem to be my friend. Has been rough week since treatments stopped. Thanks to you all at least I was prepared for what to expect and am literally taking it one day at a time. I find myself most comfortable when laying down but it gets boring after awhile. My kindle has been a Godsend.

My tail bone area just doesnt seem to be getting alot better but silvadene is helping keep it clean and soothed. The worst part is having a bowel movement, no pain really inside but outside is another story. The aquaphor does help keep it protected from some of the burning but gotta tell you I cant wait until I can have a BM wihtout it being a major life event hehehe!

Denise, I am sure you find it as difficult as me to sit for any length of time but please know I think of you daily and pray that God is sending strength and comfort. If I could reach through this screen I would grab you and give you a giant hug! If I am counting right you have only 2 more treatments, youre sooo close, hang on!!!!!

I am sooo glad your finished and on the road to recovery! Randy thanks for thinking of me, As for myself had a 6 day stay in hospital all rad treatments are on hold, I'm so scared that this will affect the outcome of getting rid of this stuff, I am at home but will be back at oncologist on Monday to check level well of just about everything. I just wonder if anyone out there had this trouble and how did it affect their outcome, let me know, Randy I will continue to pray for your recovery rejoice in this day god has given you. Denise

I am so sorry you have had such a very rough road. I do believe that if they had to break the treatment to let your body rest it was important to do so. When I was receiving radiation one of the techs told me that when the cancer cells are hit with the radiation it kind of stuns them for lack of a better word and they do not divide like they had before. You have had at least 20 radiation treatments if I remember correctly, so I will pray that the danged cells are cowering in fear.

I can understand your worries and hopefully someone here has had a mirrored experience they can share. I think right now you need to concentrate on strengthening your body back up so you can complete. Take care of you, rest, fluids and nutrition. Let God take your worries as much as you can. I will continue to pray for you everyday. You will make it through this!

    Hugs to you!!!!

I hope u r back on trac soon. I think many take breaks and are ok. Seems like that third week of radiation is the breaking point for many. Others will chime in soon.

    HI Denise--
I'm so sorry to hear of your hospitalization! You are not the first person who has taken that detour during their treatment. Please let us know when you are up to it how you are doing and what prompted your doctor to put you in the hospital. I'm very sorry that you have had to go through this, but please do not get discouraged and think that it will adversely affect your outcome. I'm sure everything will work out and you will be cancer free. I will certainly be keeping you in my prayers!

I had a 5 day stay in the hospital due to neutroenia and radiation burns. I almost didn't finish the last five radiation treatments, but I did. So far two post treatment scans indicate that I'm NED so apparently the break didn't affect the outcome. I'm 10 months post treatment. I also might add that it wasn't the radiation dr. who recommended the break. I went to ER because I felt so miserable.
    Best wishes to you!
