Tuesday at noon is my lap robotic partial neph. Thanks for all the tips for a comfortable (as possible) recovery. I assume when you are put under there is no recollection. Has anybody had their procedure video taped? I am going to the University hospital and of course signed the waiver that they may use this as an educational opportunity. I kind of would like to see a video of the procedure. Somewhere on this site someone said they went online and watched a video of the davinci procedure? If so, could you provide me with the link so I could watch it? Thanks JRod

    Hi JRod,
Good luck on Tuesday. There is no recollection. In pre-op, I was given a shot of something to "relax" me and was wheeled out to be prepped. My gurney passed my wife in the hall. We touched hands and that's the last thing I remember. I don't even recall being prepped. I thought I would remember being in the operating room counting backwards or something like you see on TV, but no, next thing I knew I was in recovery. My wife had to wait about 6 hours (I had my gall bladder removed too) but it seemed like minutes to me.
    Regards,
    Mike

    wonderful
I am really ready. I was hoping it would be something like that. I have never been in a hospital. Although I was with my mom when they did a cranie - and removed a tumor from her brain. SHe came through it with flying colors didn't remember any of it. I was allowed to be in icu with her. She woke up and said she was hungry. They provided a hefty amount of liquid diet foods. She slurped up every bit of it. the next day she was in her own room. The operation was on a Monday and she was home on Thursday. I couldn't believe it.

    Op
The. very best to you j_rod. I was last on the list yesterday. I managed to be absolutely deadpan when two nurses asked me how it was going after my op and I said "can you tell me when my op is scheduled to take place?" each replied triumphantly that it had already happened! Today one of them remarked how cogent I am today compared with yesterday when I hadn't known my op had already taken place; I had to explain that that had been an attempt at humour on my part!

Don't think too much on the procedure..
Hi, I watched some videos on the you tubes on the laps procedure after my post surgery, To be honest, it is better not watching it prior to the surgery, the graphic and live procedure was pretty 'drastic' to me, to see all in red blood and the organs and more in there... . I think if I watched it prior to my surgery, I probably have the night mare every night.

So, it's my advice. But, it is up to you how much it matters to you. No matter what, the surgeon will take good care of you, and they know what they are doing.

All the best, you are in our prayers.

Glad to hear you up in spirits and ready for surgery..As for the online video I am sorry I don't have a link to it I always clear my history..There are so many, they upset at first than I found a fully narrated one. I am having the Di vinci robotic surgery too. It looked to be a very safe procedure so much better than the old way of doing things. You are going to be just fine and so lucky to have this new cutting edge surgery..Please post after your surgery and let us all know how you are doing..

Sending prayers your way for a speedy recovery..

    Thanks everyone
Today is Sunday. I went in to work yesterday and completed 9 lesson plans for the sub. Today I go in to work again and complete 27 more lesson plans. My family wonders why I am doing this at the last minute. The answer is simple: It is keeping me away from being alone at the house where I sit and think. And it is keeping my mind extremely busy. Tomorrow I leave at noon with my sister for the trip to Chicago. I will get up in the morning and clean the house to keep busy. Nothing like nice new clean sheets to come home to. Also, last minute shopping for Tylenol - which I have never had in the house - I always used Advil or Motrin. Also, I don't have a thermometer, cause I am never sick. And I need popcicles, soup, jello, water, broth, etc. I guess putting things off to the last minute isn't procrastination, it is actually a plan. Will post once more on Monday. And hopefully be back here by Wed. or Thursday. Later.

    Sure...
...I am sure you are doing it for me! But I am expecting great success. It is small. It is on the lower pole of the right kidney. It is between the fat layer and the kidney. Doc said they might have to turn it to get at it. But it is only one inch. So I feel like I have the best of all situations. I am going to eat my last solid food for awhile. Tomorrow nothing but clear liquids. I have to admit, the only thing really bothering me is not being able to eat. I have learned to be a very good cook. With that being said, I am hoping for the weight loss somewhat as I need to drop 10 pounds - to start. Iwill let you all know how it goes. Fox - I hope you have a great day on the links. I am hoping after this I can pick up my clubs and get out there. The weather here has been perfect golf weather.

    Not long to go
Not long to be back on the links for us both - say mid-May.

Rae, any news on the job front?

I think there is a good chance you will drop the 10 pounds it takes a while to get your appetite back. I hope your surgery goes smoothly for you & wishing you a quick recovery.

    Good Luck
If you want to watch a really good video with questions and answers go to Shawnee (sp)mission medical center partial nephrectomy. It was a lady with surgery on left lower pole. I think they had to turn hers a little too. I don't have the link but you will find it. There is a transcription and then one that is a u tube video. It is very interesting. The first few minutes I thought I could not watch it but then got into it and it was interesting. I like to know what they are doing to me. I just tried to post the link but it didn't. So just google it.

Good luck! I hope the waiting does not seem to long for you. By tomorrow at this time the sugery will be started and then almost done. I always look for that time when it is over.

Please have someone keep us posted.

I hope you get this before you go into surgery if you want to watch. I thought it very informative.

    Prayers and best wishes.

    Operations
Mine seems to have gone off ok j_rod, how about yours?

Don't expect to come out 10 lbs lighter but don't lose hope that you will. I came home from hospital last night at about 6 lbs heavier than I was on Friday, before my op. With my first op in December I came out 8 lbs up and then lost 20 lbs very rapidly.

    I'm baaaaack...
I went to Chicago on Monday. My sister drove me and was by my side. Tuesday went to the hospital. got checked in. Prepped for surgery. They gave me something to re........... Zonk. Woke up in recovery 4 hours later at 4:00. Didn't get to my room til 10:00. By the time I had meds, etc. it was midnight. Slept til 2:30 am. Then no sleep - they were giving me meds again. So at 2:00 today they released me. My sister drove me 150 miles home. It looks like I've been in a knife fight. Some pain. Then don't like to get narcotics. They give tylenol alternating with Motrin. They did write a script on my assistance for tylenol 3. I am moving slow. as you can imagine. Thanks for all of your prayers. I love all of you for your support and info. I am going to relax here at home now. Thanks for everything. will talk to you later. Jan

    Amazing!
You've done brilliantly. That must be as fast and tough a passage as anyone here has had.

So now DO TAKE IT EASY - you deserve it and you also need it.

i dont know how they do it
buthere i am at home sipping on a cup of coffee like it is just another day. like i said they dont like to prescribe narcotics just tylenol regular strength. i insisted on a script for somethihg stronger which they finally gave me. i did not get it filled on the way home and there was definitely some pain trying to get out of bed inthe middle of the night to use the loo. this morning sore on the side with the incisions i hanent counted all of them yet. i think there are 6. my dog is happy i amhome and wants to play. she is only 4 lb. myfiance is shocked i amhome already and i told him that i would be asking a lot of him because i dont feel like getting up andsitting down every time i need something. i am taking it easy as it is uncomfotable to straighten up and walk. i am on spring breakthis week. i put in for two more weeks so i wont be going backuntil april 23rd. that is my incentive for getting better - so i canenjoy some of my time off.
