Carl still in ICU

We are still in ICU. Bili numbers continue to climb is at a 19 now. They are preparing to go in and scope the bile duct tomorrow probably since they don't have a team in today. He has been running around 102 temp indicating possible infection. He has fluid in his lower right lobe of his lung so are treating for pneumonia even though they really don't know if he has it but feel it is better to play it safe. Still having moments of confusion, not tracking with his eyes, when they hold up 1 finger he thinks it is 3, very yellow eyes and skin. His blood still needs to come down to 1.5 before they can pull the epidural. He thinks it is out and insists we don't know what we are talking about and wants the mri done and over with. can't do the mri until the epi is out and so just a chain effect. Regardless by Tuesday they have to pull the epidural out and we deal with any consequences. So today they are really pushing the Vit K, more plasma and something else.

    Renee,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Carl. I will keep checking back to keep the prayer and light energy going to the desired outcomes. I am so sorry this is so tough with what seems to be a domino effect of complications. Just know you are being supported from afar.

Sounds like a scary time...do you have someone with you? If not, perhaps it's time to call in some support troops. The watching and waiting is tough stuff.

    Renee,

Keeping a vigil is so hard. What would we do without our caregivers? Prayers for strength for you and a return to health for Carl. Be gentle with yourself.

Don't loose the hope, I was on a sepsis for a few days
with the same sympthoms due to a bacteria " e.fecalis" wide spectrum antibiotics and we sorted it out.
I pray for the same solution Renee.

Keep em coming he needs everything
Got excited his INR levels came to 1.3 so they swiftly took out the epidural when they saw it was in range. not going good here otherwise right now they had to back out of the scoping his bp became very unstable and the more they went in to try and do the procedure his bp finally dropped to 60 and his oxygen levels desaturated and they had to pull out. So guess nothing else will happen today. He has become very uncontrollable as it was it took 45mins for me to get him under control they were threatening to put a straight jacket on him as he kept trying to punch everyone insisting they were trying to kill him. Everyone was forced out of the room in order for him to relax then a nurse snuck back in to give him something for pain which made him sleepy. I covered him up and he started talking again and said I am dead I don't need this blanket you keep it ..does me no good. He has had 4 other mini short lived episodes but has been sleeping now for about 1 1/2 hours. Kept insisting I needed to take him outside so he could see he was still alive. I told him he wasn't stable so we couldn't do that. he tells me to get a wheelchair that will help but he needs out of here because they lied to me and are really trying to kill him.

I pray he doesn't remember anything from this week after this is all over. Sadly it will be with me a very long time. For now he rests.

I don't unless you count the dogs
his goddaughter lives 30mins away and has been coming to check once a day and bringing things if I need it. Since the original plan was to stay for surgery and leave after he was settled in a day or two later he thought having the dogs with us while he was in surgery would be a good thing to keep my occupied... well they have turned into a source of forcing me out of the hospital to go check on them every few hours thus meaning fresh air, stretching my legs etc so its a pain but also good to have. If I need his Goddaughter here all I have to do is call her.

I had the same reaction to whatever damned pain killer they
were giving me. I wasn't like that anytime after my first operation
in 2006, but this last one in 2011 was impossible.

I had hallucinated things that seemed real to me, and attempted
to crush a nurse's hand. I thought everyone, wife included, was
conspiring to kill me. I had wrist and ankle shackles applied,
an NG tube and a respirator assembly down my throat.....

The nurses said that they saw that insane reaction very often "lately",
but didn't speculate what drug was doing it.... So don't worry
about his reactions, moods, etc., they are not his normal and
have nothing to do with the "real him". He needs comfort and
reassurance that it's the drugs that are making him feel the way
he's feeling... It's tough, but try to get that across to him.

And if you can, tell the physicians responsible for his meds,
to please find one that won't cause anxiety and paranoia.

There's no reason that reaction should be happening to so many
patients; the nurses see it, the patients experience it, and the
entire care giving population has to endure it.... It's time to fix it.

My best wishes for him, and you!

What John23 said and then some
One of my surgeries involved Dialuid (not sure if that's the correct spelling), which is about 10x stronger than morphine. It was not good. At all. I went into another world that seemed very very real, and very very scary.
Please talk to the Dr. about this...it is not uncommon, but very scary for everyone involved. There are other pain meds.
    Good luck~

    That's good advice to check
That's good advice to check on the meds and to know these behaviors really aren't him. Whether it's the pain meds or other meds, something else is making him this way.
I guess having the dogs can be a good thing since they get you moving and getting some fresh air, a breather from the intensity. I just wanted you to know I'm keeping you and Carl in the light and in my prayers.

    Bless you for your vigilance.

    thank you
Thank you to everyone for the advice and prayers, making sure I think to eat etc. They put in a pic line earlier this afternoon and did an ultrasound and when doing that they found a huge fluid pocket in place of where the liver use to be. So getting the IR team in (hard to do on a holiday) so they can drain it and they are hoping it has been the cause of much if not all the problems we have been having from fevers to the passing out, jaundice etc. Will keep posted. I want to start jumping up and down with excitement that maybe he will finally be on the road to recovery but I am hesitant to do so just yet.
