Tenderness after treatment

in Peritoneal Cancer #1
Hi I'm new to this and think I have made mistake already ha ha!!
Can anyone tell me how there body feels when they have finished treatment and had surgery??
I had my Chemo in march 2011 had three sessions then surgery in June 2011 then a further three treatments all Carbo Platin and Taxol. My midriff feels very tender again already!! My CA125 had slightly risen above average in Dec 2011 so I am seeing my Consultant again in early Feb 2012 with bloods to be checked etc... so anxious !!! Sorry forgot to say I have PPC.

    Welcome to the group
    First of all welcome to the group...wish we could have met by any other means.

    I hope you continue to post (what mistakes?) and this is a pace for sharing and learning. The people are wonderfully supportive...and we learn so much from each other.

    You didn't elaborate on extent of surgery, but ANY surgery has a post operative recoop time. After my surgery (debulking, complete hysterectomy, omentum removal, bowel resectioning) snd then the chemo, it took me about six months for all my remaining organs to settle into the proper places. I looked, felt, and walked like a gutted deer for two months. I felt violated having to start chemo while I was on the mend from surgery. The soreness from my tummy got better each week after surgery..sometimes hard to fathom, but week 2 I felt better than week 1, etc. Doc explained, even after a hyst alone, most patients take 4 months to feel good again and regain their strength. Age and general health play alot in recovering.Be kind to yourself and don't do what I did (by mistake) and lift anything. I have 2 hernias cuz I lifted my small dog up on the bed...had to have my snuggles with me. As far as chemo, 1 month after last treatments has always made a big diff. If you've lost hair, it grows back, appetite returns & food is good, strength returns,etc. Well atleast that is my history, everyone is unique...but generally that is what I hear from others.

    Surgery Info
    Thank you so much for your details on the surgery. My husband was just diagnosed when he was having hernia repair..quite a shock!!! But they are telling him 2-4 months from now if the cancer responds to the chemo that they will do the debulking surgery. It sounds so hard!!! But its good to hear your report of it. It gives us hope!!! Thank you!

    Incisional Hernia
    Hi: I made that mistake too! I lifted my hefty little westie and now have a huge incisional hernia that they won't touch until we know what treatments are next (I've done 24 treatments of chemo so next treatment may be surgery).
    Don't lift anything! The hernia is a big pain in the neck - you have to wear this wide elastic band all the time and it can be uncomfortable.

    Debulking Surgery
    Hi Anxious Kathy: May I ask what kind of cancer your husband has? My peritoneum cancer is secondary - from gallbladder cancer seeding (although gallbladder and its tumour now gone). What chemo is he getting? I had 12 treatments of cisplatin/gemcitibine but that didn't do much for the peritoneum nodules (I have 6 small ones). I then had 12 treatments of oxaliplatin + irenotecan + 5FU pump and that did shrink some of the nodules and stabilized the others. It isn't a nice treatment, has a lot of side effects, but does seem to work, at least for me. The next step may be peritoneum stripping and HIPEC.
