Our journey has ended

Wednesday morning around 5:30am, my best friend, husband, father of my children, and life long love lost his courageous battle with the beast. It was 15 months to the day from his initial diagnosis. He died peacefully at home with his family around him, and is now free from all the pain he had been suffering. He reached his goal of making it through Christmas and getting to see all the family together and we made some wonderful memories. The pain from the bones mets was constantly with him and we were never able to find the balance between the methadone and pain. Either he was awake and in pain or sleeping and pain free. His feet and hands had been very swollen for several weeks and he could not get comfortable in bed in order to raise them up. He had spent the last month pretty much in the recliner and then getting up and moving from chair to chair around the house trying to find a comfortable position. On the last day we had convinced him to get into the bed to sleep, and he never woke up again. We always knew from the beginning that there would be no cure, and so we prayed for time. I believe while God could not take this horrible beast away, he did grant us the time we prayed for. Rickie and I got married 35 years ago when we were just 19; we faced good times and bad together, and always worked as a team. We raised 3 wonderful children and always taught them that if you made a commitment to something then you stuck by your commitment. I was proud to be his wife. Rickie and I made a commitment to fight the beast together, and we never gave up. Thank you all for all the support and guidance you have given during this journey. We could not have made it this far without you. Rickie's journey has ended and mine will continue on until we met again in heaven to enjoy eternal life.

    I am so sorry
You know, its hard to loose someone we love but in the case of this disease and the difficulties it brings, sometimes its a relief to let go. I have followed you and Rickie's journey and you have to know that from the outside looking in, it was obvious that you were behind him all the way. I hope in the coming months, you can gain some peace about all this. Praying for you and your children as you go thru this difficult time. Sam stage IV

    very sad to see this
    Dear Cher,
So sad to see this. Glad that Rick is not suffering anymore but know how much you loved him and will be missing him for a long time to come. You did your best for him. I am sad to hear about the pain at the end, it doesn't seem fair at this day and age anyone should have to suffer like that. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all and your family. He was a standup guy and you raised your kids right. Glad that you did have your Christmas together. many hugs from afar,

    Cher - I grieve with you -
and I pray that you will find the strength I know you are going to need in the coming days, months and years. I'm going through the same thing as you right now, I lost the light and love of my life on December 17th, so I know no words are adequate to express what we've shared with these wonderful men. Know that I feel your pain and send love - Kim
