Has anyone been told post chemo, that their vitamin D is deficient? I have read that it can cause all sorts of muscle pains, joint pains, and I just wonder if that is a lot of the residual pain that so many of us have after treatments? Muscle cramping in my back is the worst. Any thought s from anyone would be appreciated.

thanks

christy

vit d is essential for many things
i had suggestions here, research online and posted here.
i take 10,000 iu a day, my levels were 137 nmol/L that different to what the us measure. just search our forum, heaps has been written. its cheap and easy, i hope it helps me.

goodluck in your research. i was advised on ian gawler if my readings were really low to have a megadose of 25000 iu and then monitor bloods.

i would check with your doctor and a good naturopath should be able to advise.
i get mine tested with each quarterly blood test.

I am working on my vitamin D levels
    Hi Christy,
Several months into my treatments I read about vitamin D and cancer. I had my levels checked and found they were extremely low. Knowing that vitamin D is important when dealing with cancer, I started working with my naturopathic doctor to bring the levels up. Presently I am holding at 3 000 mg a day and will be seeing her in about a month to retest and decide if I should hold here or go up to a higher dose again.
In my opinion, you could probably have your blood tested and then see a naturopathic doctor to go over the results and provide you with a plan of action if your levels are poor.
    Hope this helps,

Yes, but my levels were never tested pre-chemo
I now require 10,000 iu/day to stay in a normal range. Note: it must be D3. I've been working with a specialist at Memorial Sloan Kettering who is overseeing my D-supplements.

Links to colorectal cancers have been pretty much established.

    Vit D deficient
My Vit D level was 6, prior to getting a colonoscopy. Sure enough I had cancer. I continue to take Vit D daily. We should all keep track of our Vit D

    Vitamin D deficiency has
Vitamin D deficiency has been thought of a sn indicator for some types of cancer. .y mother is the patient, but she and I have battled with this defieciency. I have bodyaches that feel like I had the flu. I had to take mega doses of vitamin D and then smaller dosages of over the counter. I also had to get more sunlight. Don't know if this helps, but this is my experience.

    pain in the....
My wife had severe lower back pain for decades. It disappeared after she changed her diet and added supplements including 17,000 iu of vitamin D3 after her cancer diagnosis, mostly before chemo. After starting chemo, we shifted her down to 12,000 iu D3 per day and her vitamin D blood levels became slightly insufficient, in retrospect a mistake. Bone and back pain can be associated with low vitamin D levels. In retrospect, we both seem to have had substantial health issues related to (lack of) vitamin D3.

Thanks MSMed for that 200 iu RDA, mostly with vit D2, advice against any sun, and the "protection" from any "quacks" recommending 1000-2500 iu D3 per day...

    Other things too?
I think that calcium and magnesium deficiencies can cause those symptoms as well. If your Vitamin D is OK, it might be good to check out those other minerals.

just let the test speak for itself
depending on skin colour, how much you get naturally from the sun, so time of year, geographic location etc etc etc,

also consider your health, sounds crazy but you need more vit d3 if your being stressed by radio/chemo/surgery.

well i guess that makes sense, being in hospital and away from the sun also makes a case for supplementation to increase levels.

the clinical study in new zealand of colorectals who were mega dosed, ie 50000iu showed an interesting pre op strategy.

do your research yourself, no free lunches here, fight your own battles, ask your own oncologist, and sit back and make the decision about d3.

step into the unknown. my advice, documented here was just take your shirt off, no need for supplements from my oncologist.

they say teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.

well researching vitamin d3, helped me to learn to fish so to speak. we are all responsible for our health, not our doctors. god love them, but they are hopefully just well intended humans caught up in a health system, that hello i found to be far from perfect but functioning enough to keep me here.

its not advice, but i found the drops far more effective. i have enough pills.

if you do your research you may have some questtions about calcium and vitamin k2.
i would read up on these as well, especially if your doing folfox with regard to peripheral neuropathy.

who wants your heart values calcified anyway ? i don't.
if you do the research you may want to checkout the post on spirulina.

not many places to get extra k2,than good old usa based hawian spirulina, don't let the warnings about blue/green algae scare, after all we are fighting crc.

did you see the utub video from ucla.

our lovelly and wonderful lisa42 opened my eyes to the d3 drops.

i was giving out these drops on my ian gawler cancer retreat over a few mornings to my new found friends on the retreat.

a couple of drops of sunshine on the palms of their hands and a lick.

    lick away i say.

i don't let the lack of a double blind clinical trial stop me, have you noticed the huge irony.

if its chemo, well go ahead and jump on the trial, take any risk the modern medical estabishment offers. you may find the magic bullet solution, that means life style does not matter. gee getting some sun either naturally or supplemented is so unnatural and dangerous.

after i got vitamin d3 sorted, i researched exercise, now that is a whole other post.

    hugs,
    pete
