Thyrogen shots before RAI

Does anyone know about these shots? I am waiting for the drug to arrive. There is a shortage of it. I was told that I will get 2 shots one day after another. My insurance does not cover this and the cost is about $1000.00 a shot. Can anyone give me any info about this.
Thank you
Barbara

    None for me
    Hi Barbara,

Unfortunately thyrogen was not available in my areas so I went "au naturel" in preparation for my RAI. I had my thyroid out (8/16-partial and the rest on 8/23). Was on cytomel for a few weeks after surgery and stopped on 9/23 and off meds until 10/21 (after whole body scan). It was rough but bearable.

Next year I will need to have the WBS and I hope thyrogen is available-if it's not I know I can do it without but I've been told it will be harder next time because the RAI has destroyed any/all remaining thyroid tissue.

Not sure if my response helps. Good luck in your journey.

    I had thyrogen
    Hi Barbara,

I had thyrogen before both of my treatments and before my uptake scan. Six injections in all. I only noticed a slight headache after the first one. I took Ibuprofen and it went away. Then before the rest of the injections I took Ibuprofen a half an hour before the injections and I never got the headache again. Thyrogen is the way to go. Going hypo is very difficult physically and mentally. Glad you are able to get the injections. It' worth the cost.

    Blessings,
    Julie-SunnyAZ
