Menstrual cramps from Tamoxifen?

Hi everyone!

I just started on Tamoxifen a few days ago. Today I am having bad cramps. I never really had menstrual cramps but I guess this is how they feel. I just had my first period post chemo 2 weeks ago, but was told they could be infrequent at first. Has anyone else had this possible side effect from Tamoxifen/ possible increased PMS after chemo?

All comments are much appreciated.

Eva

I never had cramping-but I am sure it could be related. I am now 52 and been on tamoxifen for 3 years...May had hystertomy due to thickened uterus and bleeding (Post meno)

I'll be curious to check back if others reply saying yes cramps

    Me too.
    Hi Eva,

I have been on tamoxifen since April 2010. I get cramps every blue moon. Like you, I never really suffered from cramps while I menstruated. Luckily, they are far and few times in between. My last menstrual was back in October 2009. Best of luck with your journey.

    Arimidex
I have no ovaries so I am on arimidex. I have been having what seemed like menstrual cramps. They aren't any worse than when I had a period and they don't last long. I thought it was all in my head! I am interested in seeing the other responses now.

    I did get cramping.
I had a hysterectomy due to Tamoxifen. I started bleeding about 3 years after taking it and tests revealed uterine thickening so I opted to take it all out. Not everyone reacts the same though. I'm just sharing what happened to me.

Eva, because of your age and
Eva, because of your age and still being in "child rearing" years maybe it's just your hormones re-adjusting. Like you said you were told your periods could be more frequent in the beginning as your cycle trys to get back on track. Being one that has had cramps often the first days of my cycle it's pretty normal. A couple of tylenol or Motrin helped releave those aches. I hope things improve for you soon...

    Thanks for all the responses
Thanks for all the responses girls! Its always appreciated when you share your stories as it gives a frame of reference. The cramps went away within the hour and then I was able to spend the whole day in the city with my husband. So I really have nothing to complain about! It was just such an unusual sensation for me as I never had cramps as PMS. The closest thing I could compare it to was the cramps I experienced after my D&C after my baby miscarried earlier this year.

    Again, thanks all for sharing.
