4 or 4 1/2 hours. Esophagus taken up to what I call the "throat hollow". No sign of cancer spread. Tumor in esophagus appears dead and gone according to Pathologist. Actual Pathology reports will be back tomorrow afternoon with real results. 2 - 3 lymph nodes are enlarged - those will be reported on in the Pathology report. He's still in Recovery, but I can breathe now after speaking with the surgeon! Whew....

    We are truly blessed!
Nick was able to move directly from Surgery to Recovery to a regular surgical floor room. No ICU for us. He's been up walking - probably passed 10 rooms on the way down the hall and then back again. Looks a bit "drunk" when he walks, but dang it, he's up ;)

As far as tubes, he's got a nose tube to drain the stomach. That will remain until Sunday, I believe. There's a NG(?) tube to drain the chest - haven't heard a remove date for that yet. And of course a catheter to eliminate restroom treks for an unsteady man. He has an epidural also, and so far (fingers crossed) it's doing the job of managing his pain.

I would give anything to bring everyone battling EC along with us through the surgical journey. The gusto so many of the EC posters put into enjoying life is wonderful. You do us ALL honor with your spirit for life.

Blessings, Peace, and Prayers to all traveling with EC. With love....

    Holy smokes!
Nick is cruising right along. No ICU, that is amazing!! The NG tube is the one in his nose, he probably has a chest tube too. And he is already walking, amazing!!

Jeff did two laps around ICU today. He is still there tonight, but that is only because the thoracic floor is full. Guess John Hopkins is pretty popular, haha.

    Prayer for continued speedy recovery.

    Terry,
That is wonderful news! Drunken staggering or not, that is fantastic that he's walking that distance already! Just remember, baby steps, and one day at a time. We're all rooting for you and Nick to be racing laps around that place soon! And most importantly Terry, don't forget to take care of yourself. Stress does seem to work in bizarre ways on our bodies. Get some rest, maybe a nice hot bath and a gossip magazine to take you away.
    thinking of you always,

    Nick is one tough cookie.
Terry I’m so pleased to hear that Nick is doing well, thank you very much for keeping us posted. Surgery, no ICU and up and walking all in one day, it doesn’t get much better than that. You mentioned the lymph nodes, do you know how many they removed?
