SIR-Spheres

My husband, Randy, is scheduled to have the SIR-Spheres next month at MD Anderson in Houston. He has cc IV, has had folfox w/avastin (13 treatments) and 8 rounds of Irinotecan w/Erbitux. The folfox stopped working and the other never worked. He has several large mets on his liver and cannot have a resection.

My question is has anyone had the SIR-Spheres done? If you have, how well did it work for you and did you have any problems with it. Any advice you can give would be helpful

Thanks,
Tina

    I don't know anything about
I don't know anything about your husbands procedure but would like information on your experience at MD. I am seeking a second opinion on my husband and wondering where the best place to go. Lisa

    MD Anderson
We've only been once. His dr is Dr. Shroff. We really liked her. Since we've been home her staff has been in contact with on a regular basis. They are not doing things as fast as I would like for them to but I'm not very patient when it comes to his treatment.

As far as the lab and other depts, they are just like every other one he's been to except bigger. The place is huge!!! I do truely feel that it is the right place for him to be.

I believe in second opinions. This is his 3rd. His local onc and Vanderbilt both said they couldn't do anything for him any more

Hope everything goes well for your husband.

If I can give you any more info about MD let me know.

    SIR-Spheres
    Hi Tina,

Congrats on Randy's upcoming treatment with "little magic beads." I was fortunate to have the procedure five years ago. I was in a very grave situation with innumerable liver mets and no more chemo treatments available. The procedure was easy for me, with a few days of fatigue and some mild cramping; followed by a wait for results. I had excellent response and was able to resume chemo and other targeted treatments to keep other tumors in check.

You can read about other survivor experiences at www.beatlivertumors.org and get good information at www.sirtex.com.

If you have any questions for me, or if I can help in any way please let me know.

    Take care,
    Suzanne

    good news
It's great to hear from someone who had such a positive response to Sir-spheres!!! While he feels good he is still at that stage where everything has stopped working and we're grabbing at straws. We are in Houston now to get his arteriogram Monday, they did other test this week and then we come back on 9-13 for the procedure.

    Thanks
